I'll be doing a proper mb/cpu/ram upgrade in May most likely, the SSD will make a nice present for myself in the meantime.

Since it's sata II only, why not get a bit slower(cheaper) drive to save a few bucks as the slower ones will probably be fast enough to get max (or close to) performance from his rig.

Intel 520 is a bit OTT for sata II (IMO)

Eventually he'll be upgrading to SATA III (he said around may he'll do a platform upgrade). Might as well get the best drive he can afford now.

I must say I'm rather impressed with this drive.

It really turns around an older system, doesn't it?

I wouldnt say 'double' but certainly will get even more peppy. I have the 240gb version running on a 3770K rig and it purrs along nicely. :)

Oh yeah, Windoze boots faster, I no longer have to wait about 2 min after I've booted for what I'm guessing is the CCC/.net crap loading to have my system be useable and games not longer stutter when I first start a game, D3 was bad for that, especially at checkpoints where there was a horde of baddies. Win7 Experience Index went from 5.3 to 7.8 for the disk transfer rate.
