I see an empty shopping cart. You may want to post an image.

My System Specs

Default

I'm thinking of a buying a system built around the AMD A Series chip too.

I am looking at the A8 vs A10 and in the various tests there is very little to distinguish them - so it will depend on how much of a discount I can get on the A8 to make it worth while. You may want to broaden your search to include packages including the A8 as from what I can read there would be marginal performance differences. But I'm no expert by any stretch so would welcome more seasoned views on the relative value of the step up from A8 to A10. The step down to A6 is a much bigger step.

I'm using my old case so I've not looked into cases at all so can't help you on that one. Mine has USB and E-Sata on the top at the front, I have an e-Sata portable drive so that is very handy, but with all the new portable drives and everything else going to USB 3.0 I'd be looking for a case with a couple of USB 3's on the front panel. If it is going to be on the floor you want the USB's at the top of the case - if it is sitting up on your desk the bottom works better. I have a door that opens to access the optical drives, it is a bit of a bother when swapping out CD's or using my card reader which is also behind the door. But it does give the machine a more finnished look so again that depends on where it is. I guess the door also cuts down on the dust entering the system and getting into your dive bays - but my box still manages to bred dust bunnies like nobodies business.

Re RAM - I still have not made up my mind - but when you select a package you'd think they would only bundle compatible parts so I take it the Sniper 1866 RAM should work with the A10 - I don't know if there is any difference between motherboards and chipsets and RAM compatibility - I'm going ASUS, been using ASUS for years so I'm sticking with what I know and the reviews of the ASUS mBoards are very good. I see it used in testing of the A10 along with the Gigabyte board. Have never seen the ASRock used in any testing.

I did decide to go with the A85 version of the mboard as it has a few more features, but if you won't use those features it does not make sense to buy them, but you should look at the differences between the chipsets for the FM2 Board.
