Building my Dream PC (Help Needed !!)

Ok ... so this a project that will be accomplished over the course of several months ...
I am no "rich snob", just your average PC Gaming Geek (With a well paying job, but no girlfriend (so no extra costs on that side xD ))
Since this is my current situation, and since I have it planed for several months ahead:
MONEY IS NOT A PROBLEM, I will have the money available in time, and can wait.

I only want to accomplish my Dream Setup.
And need your help tweaking it ...

Now I am not the most knowledgable person when it comes down to chosing parts ... But I know how to build the PC (done it more than enough times).
So I need help with compatibility, and stuff like that.

If it's months away then why not wait and see if IB-E will be out (the Ivy equivalent of the chip you have picked)

Personally I would go proper quad SLI and a custom loop for cooling on my dream machine. 4x 4GB 680's.

I would also probably go for 3 IPS panels. but hey, thats just me. :D

I don't wish to go Full on Real Quad SLI, due the the space and because the 690's just look so damn sexy as thay are without adding a waterblock.
Also, I am not a huge fan of Watercooling for GPU's ... idk why, just doesn't look nice imo. (Looks kinda "chunky") And well, it's more trouble to upgrade later down the lane.

I heard Ivy isn't as good as some people seem to be saying ... but that could be a future upgrade.

I am wondering if dropping off some of the ram to get a larger SSD would prove better in performance for your C4D rendering. My college render machines were using 32gb of ram and I don't think I ever seen it fully used. Also you might want to put some money in your build for some good fans, having 2x 690s in your case will push some heat for sure, especially on rendering.

Good idea about the extra SSD ... will get more info on the matter and maby go with it.
However, about the fans, I am already ahead of you :P

The case will have all the Fan slots used.
Will be going with bigger fans, to avoid too much noise while still having a great flow.


Any idea about the PSU and the Hard Drives ?
I am not exactly sure about how much watts I need ... cause 1500 seems like a big "Bill Killer".

Intel 520 Series 240GB SSD - $214.99 - Add a second one if you like. Intel 520 Series is regarded by most as the absolute best SSDs on the market right now.

2x Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200rpm - $139.90 x2 - 1TB per platter (super dense) make these some of the fastest large capacity HDDs in the consumer market.

And for the PowerSupply:

Corsair AX1200i Digital Powersupply - currently the most advanced power supply on the market. Being digital, you can monitor performance and power draw from Windows using Corsair's application. It also turns off the fan at low loads, so while watching a movie, at least you won't have PS noise (kind of moot given you're planning on population all fan locations in your case)

Also, since you're splurging 2K+ on a couple of GTX690's, not to mention all the other uber-expensive but dead sexy parts you're planning on getting, why not just go for the full beans 3960X? What's an extra $470 among friends when you're already spending $4000?

Also, you're damn well better post pictures when you get all your parts, and show us WIP as well as completed rig pics. A rig like this doesn't come along every day.

I would suggest dropping the seagates.. they are quite fast for a regular HDD, granted.. but have a 1 year warranty.

I've used a 2GB one on my brothers new build BUT he's on a very tight budget.

Can't beat the WD Blacks for speed and reliability IMO, have had 7 myself and built with many more and not had a single glitch with a single one. Add in 5 yr warranty vs the Seagates 1yr..

I agree the 690's look awesome. Pitty they don't come in 8GB model for super high res multi-monitor gaming.. or surround with 3d.. you get what I mean.. :P

That Corsair looks sweet. Really the 690's aren't power hungry and I don't see anything else that is particularly brutal either. Good 1200 watt should be more than enough even with OC and stress testing.
I'm not very up on the different models of PSU's, especially the higher end ones (large wattage) but Seasonic are pretty much always a good choice.
You'll need to dig around for a site that does good reviews of Good PSU's to really find what your looking for.

About the Hard Drives ... idk.
The WD Blacks do indeed look juicy with a nice warranty ... but yeah.

EDIT:
About the 3TB vs 2TB ...
Recording 120Fps Fullsize (1920x1080+) makes massive files.
Specially when I record for over 1 hour, and pretty much every game I play ^^

I also render in RAW format, then re render with a specially made 3rd party program. So 2min becomes 20Gb+ pretty fast.

Yes I totally get what you mean ... but being more of a competitive player, I am not so much into eyefinity / multy dosplay gaming.
Sure it's nice for the occasional single player games, but I think you get what I mean here.

Multi tasking is the prime reason behind the 3 monitors, also for editing purpouses:
1 screen has the time line
1 screen has the full screen fullsize preview
Last has the files open ready for drag'n'drop / internet tutorial if I need help for something.

Also, @ the person who said something about only 32ram, I kinda want to also fill up all the 8 available slots ^^
The colour theme is going to look sexy once I get this build. (probably under a year from now, still need to eat xD)
