Default High-end MITX Build

Dear Canucks

Thanks for taking your time and reading.

1. PC will be used for gaming, music, movies and browsing.

2. Budget is,with your help, less than $2,000

3. Buying parts from Newegg US, shipped to Saudi Arabia. Recommendations other than Newegg are appreciated.

4. No brand preference.

5. intend on using my Speakers/TV , and already have a wired gaming mouse and mech. keyboard for serious gaming. Also have one PS3 Dualshock controller that I plan to install with motionjoy driver.

6. Have searched and read similar threads, even wrote about it. I just want other experts' opinions.

7. Plan on overclocking.

8. I plan to build it now. I said this 3 months ago but, but I waited a while. A deal stopper would be Seasonic releasing a 500W+ fanless PSU or Nvidia/AMD releasing a 2nd gen 28nm video card before the year ends. I'd wait for those.

9. What resolution and settings do you use?
HDTV= 1080P @60hz. Settings have to be @ max.

10. Are there any specific technologies you want?
A filter to annoying questions.

Edit: updated after your feedback. Thank you Canucks!

Intel Core i5-3570K $230
Noctua NH-L12 $72
ASUS P8Z77-I Deluxe $196
SAMSUNG 8GB $45
MSI N670 PE $418
Crucial M4 512GB $420
Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB $183
LG Black 14X BD-R $125
SeaSonic SSR-650RM 650W $135
BitFenix Prodigy $95
3x Noctua NF-F12 33x3= $99
Logitech K800 $90
Logitech M505 $56
Total: $2,164

Appreciating your help!

Just so that you're aware, the Corsair H80 will fit in that case and should provide substantially better cooling than the downdraft cooler that you're looking at. Plus it will exhaust that warm air outside of your case, instead of circulating it inside.

Corsair H80 - $89.99

EDIT:

Also, Nice choice of Case, BTW.

IF your max resolution is 1080P, you could easily get away with a 660Ti and max everything. I'd even say that a GTX660 would be enough to max all games at 1080P, but the 660Ti is more playing it safe.

I seriously doubt that any of the manufacturers will be releasing a new generation of cards before the new year. AMD will be the first, and the 7970 wasn't hard launched until January of this year. I wouldn't bother waiting.

Go for the Crucial M4.

Thanks for your feedback. I'm keen on silent aircoolong and am not too happy with the sound of the pump on the h80. I'm going to replace the two fans in the case with 5 nf-f12 fans (2 front & 2 top intakes and 1 rear exhaust). The Airflow from the top of the case and orientation of the motherboard will make for optimum airflow that should yield better results than in reviews while maintaining the quietness.

The GTX 660ti? I saw no real drop in performance from the GTX 680 to 670 on 1080p and frames where well beyond 60 per sec in all games, hence the decision to go with it. I haven't looked at the 660ti yet but I thought the 670 gave enough room for future games that will be more demanding. I'll def check it out. Tbh gpu is the last place I want to compromise.

I started reading in customer feedback and forums about the poor reliability of OCZ ssds.it's a shame as the numbers on the vertex4 were impressive. Is that why you prefer the M4 or does it perform on par with the vertext4.

I appreciate your help.

The OCZ drives are actually fairly reliable it was a controller issue that has since been fixed.

The m4 has great speed and is one of the most reliable drives out there so I would go for it.

For the GPU I would go with the MSI PE, it is a very impressive card for the price.

I would love to see pictures of your build as I have contemplated a similiar build. Are you going for the white or black case?

Looks like a nice build, although I agree your spending more on a GPU than what you will use, even trying to future proof, the 660ti would be a good option. Hell I paid $100 less for my HD 7950 OC and it runs everything max at 1920x1200 no issues. Post pics once you build!!

Well that settles it for the ssd. I noticed the same M4 512gb item repeated five times on Newegg so I made sure I chose the one with the highest part number, ie the newest.

As for the Videocard, MSI did one hell of a job! but the review in hwc says the PE is quiter than the Top and hotter, while TPU says the exact opposite! I highly respect both sites and their communities but why is it like that? Does the timing of the reviews (June for TPU and September for HWC) and improved drivers or fan profiles have anything to do with it?

Just to clear it up, I'm picking the 670 over the 660ti for 60fps @1080p because the less I tax the card, the lower the heat and noise it generates, just like when we install big PSUs and use half the load. Of course my priority is noise as the case fans will take care of the heat. I didn't clear that up before.

Will def post pics! I want to start building it but this is another issue I forgot to mention in my first post. The black version has been out of stock in Newegg for a while and I'm waiting for it.

just a word of advice. The NF-F12s are significantly louder than the S12 fans.

I don't have enough experience with other fans to say it is objectively loud, but it still is much louder than what you would expect from Noctua.

I sincerely recommend going with the S12 or P12/14 fans. If you insist, only use the f12s for your cpu cooler.

2 f12s were SIGNIFICANTLY louder than the pump on the h80.
