Gotta say I was pretty impressed playing L4D2 on my brothers 3570k.. not all the bells and whistles and not the smoothest experience ever but for IGP, you have nout to worry about...

Personally I would go intel 3570k... then all you have to do is add a gpu in 2 years when it's not enough anymore... You can build them for pretty cheap too..

If you really want budget, get a $50 board and a $50 pentium chip and work from there with a $100 GPU.. will still beat IGP..

My System Specs

So, I got this rig all built up:

ASUS F1A75-M Pro (bought LNIB from forum)
AMD A6 3670K APU (bought BNIB from forum)
G-Skill Ripjaws 1866MHZ 2x4GB RAM (bought New from NCIX)
320GB WD 'Black' HDD (out of an iMac that had the drive replaced with an SSD - so, free)
Gigabyte BT4.0 + 300Mbps dual band wireless card (bought New from Mem Ex)
Bitfenix Shinobi Window (white) (bought New from Mem Ex)
Coolermaster Hyper 212+ (bought new from NCIX)
22.5" BenQ LED monitor (bought new from Mem Ex)

All told, I spend $400 including the monitor, simply because I picked up a few used/free parts. Awesome!

I installed Win7 Pro 64bit and all the drivers using my USB stick (and I love having a 2nd, support computer when setting up a new rig), loaded it up with all the games he wants including Spore, Minecraft, All the Lego games, and Assassin's Creed III. I played ACIII on it a little, and I'm actually pleasantly surprised by how well the game plays on the IGP. Granted, it's at lower settings, but the game still looks nice, and runs smooth.

I started a Steam and Origin account for him, and finally put the rig back into the box. The wife is going to wrap it this week, and put it under the tree.

Anyways, the plan is to purchase him a 7750 after Xmas, while the long-term plan is to eventually upgrade my computer to an i7 platform, then move my 1055T/M5A97 into the kid's rig, and finally transfer the FM1 setup to the HTPC.

HTPC: Z77A-G45; 3770K; Zalman FX70; 2x4GB Kingston HyperX 1600Mhz; MSI GTX960; 2x 128GB Crucial M4 SSD; 4TB WD Red, 2x 2TB WD Green; Corsair RM650I; Corsair Carbide 600C;
Son's Rig: M5A97; FX8350; CNPS20LQ; 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz; Powercolor 7950; 250GB Crucial MX200; 320GB WD Black HDD; SPI 700W; Bitfenix Shinobi;
