Thanks again for the advise folks.

I will do some OCing but nothing too extreme.

I'm now leaning towards the Maximus Formula as it seems to have better OC support than the P5E. Neither board have an eSATA connection like the P5E3 but I can live without that. The Rampage Formula does have a good review at AnandTech though. Hopefully my indecision will not survive the weekend!

8GB is tempting, but that might put off the next upgrade and I waited too long for this one

I picked the 1000W PSU as I intend to add a 3870X2 or 4870X2 (if/when they get released this summer).

Cheers.

Hi Folks,

Still playing with the parts list as a few things seem to be hard to get.

I'll probably change the processor to an E8400 and wait for the quad prices to drop.

Also changing the memory as the Corsair sticks are out of stock. Does anyone have any experience with the Patriot Extreme Performance Viper Series DDR2 4GB (2 x 2GB) PC2-8500 Enhanced Latency Dual Channel Kit?

Cheers.

If you're looking for an E8400, watch the For Sale forums. I have one that will be appearing soon.

Also, I've heard of that Patriot memory not playing so well with the Maximus.

I would go on Patriot's forums and ask specifically if they've tested with the Maximus (not just any X38 board)

Thanks zlojack.

I think I'll skip the Patriot sticks based on those forum posts, seems they're better suited to NVidia chipsets.

Cheers.
