If its gaming you're in it for I would drop down the CPU to the i7-3820 you wont notice a performance difference in it. I would take that $250 savings and invest your self in a nice pair of Astro a40 headset. A good quality headset makes all the difference in gaming, FPS games mostly.

Once we're down to a single card and all of this why are we still on s2011?

One thing to keep in mind, in your first post you said you were looking to build around Dec, there will for sure be some price changes in the market before then, so keep an eye out.

My System Specs

Default

And the elephant strikes again.. lol

Anyway back to the build..
4Gb card not worth it for single monitor... even if it's 120hz you won't use the extra ram.. price seems a little high still considering the your building an i7 with a 680..
should be able to do it (less the monitor and peripherals) for $1600 easily.. or about $1800 with dual 670's (which will blow away your single 4 GB 680 and be about $150 more ish)

I would grab a caorsair TX 850v2.. It's seasonic built, will be more than enough for dual cards and should be cheaper. Hell you could go with a 750 without problem with most dual card set-ups.

If you want to play with and push clocks, grab a 2700k, they clock better.. if you want a solid oc around the 4.5GHz mark stick with the 3770k
The 3770k will be about 3-5% better at the same clocks but you should be able to push to maybe 5GHZ on a 2700k (chip and oc skills dependant)

Also I would consider a cheaper motherboard.. unless your looking at really high-end / non conventional cooling you won't notice a difference for overclocking on that to the likes of a sabertooth
The one thing I would really consider would be a discreet sound card especially if. good mid range card like a dx or d1 will set you back about 60-80 bucks. Then again youe will need good peakers/headset to see the benifit.
Though if the maximus has allot of features you want that you'll lose by going lower (if you actually use thunderbolt or the like) then it is a very, very good board

make-sure your price-matching.. can save you a bundle.

Yeah I second that, I am running a 3GB 7950 and I have yet to see a game use more than 900mb of my ram at 1920x1200

Why on earth are you going to pay $429 for a Galaxy GTX 670.. That is not even close to being worth it. You should look at the Radeon cards since the most recent price drops.

I was in the same boat when building my PC, then after looking at the benchmarks and seeing what the prices have dropped down to I went for a HD 7950 OC Black Ed this card is pretty comparable at stock speeds and will smoke the 670 when slightly overclocked. They are priced just over the $300, running dual of those in crossfire would be slick!

Reference:

http://www.************/article/2012..._card_review/4 - Review on a 7950 OC Black Ed. Factory overclocked.

http://www.************/article/2012..._card_review/7 - Overclocking the 7950 you get some pretty dam impressive results.

For the cost difference your looking at saving yourself $240+tax after MIR, while getting better results if you OC

Ask me that again in a couple weeks.

I consider the Corsair GS to easily be the equal of the Intel 520. I am very...VERY impressed with the new'ish SanDisk Toggle Mode NAND. ;)
