Hey I'm new here, but I plan to stay.
I've read the Stickys, so here is some of the stuff I heard you wanted to know from there...
I live in eastern Canada, and I'm an Intel, Nvidia, & Corsair fanboy at the moment. I'm look at building a PC to play games and do photoshop and minor video rendering (Nothing too serious.) Plus, I would like to overclock just a tad (I'll explain later on.)

So to kick it off...

GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-D3H I like this board since its a Gigabyte, it has dual bios, Lots of USB 3.0, enough Fan, Sata, and other headers I want. Intel i5-2500k Sandy I don't need an i7 & I heard a lot of good things about this processor, plus its overclockable. So I plan on doing so to maybe 4GHz. Corsair H60 Internal Water CPU Cooler I really don't want a huge ugly heatsink in my case. So I like this because it looks great, let provides really good cooling from everything I've read about it. (

WD Cavair Black Not to much to say here, 1tb, plenty of space, 7200RPM. I would get a SSD, but I don't wanna spend too much on this. ( Newegg.ca - Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive )

Corsair TX600M PSU It's semi-modular to clear up wire clutter, it's 80plus certified, and it should be enough power for my build! Is it? I'm willing to go non-modular to get a TX750 or something. All adds up to like $840 without shipping.

So that is it.. I'll be putting it in my NZXT M56 which I picked up for cheap. Even though its a 2 year old case, it's painted matte black inside and out, has an intake fan, 2 top 140mm fans, and a side blue LED 120mm fan.

So if you guys got any advice, I would appreciate hearing it.

Take that chip to 4.8 - 5GHZ without much problems.. If you don't want to go that far get a 3570k instead...
Some extra built in features, performs better clock for clock, will use less power and produce less heat till you get ~ 4.5ghz.. then the 2500k is better.

All I can say about that motherboard is.. bleh.. It's gigabyte... Nightmare if it fails
(bad customer service in my experience and for you.. No Canadian RMA facility which means Shipping to US if something goes wrong)
My choice would be Asus p8z77 V Pro or if trying to save money ASRock z77 extreme 4 or higher.

550ti... in an overclocked i5? Is this a gaming rig or what are you using it for? If gaming, What do you play? What resolution is your monitor?
If your gaming at 1920x1080 (standard resolution these days for 21" + monitors) then I suggest a cheaper cooler and bump the budget a bit more for the GPU..
GPU is the single biggest increase in gaming performance you will see with any current computer.. ( this also depends on what you play, if anything)
My suggestion if you play modern titles at 1080 would be a 7950 or GTX660Ti.

WD I love but are a bit pricey for their performance.. Grab a Seagate 1TB 7200.14 drive.. Faster and cheaper. (1TB per platter if it doesn't show the 7200.14)

And don't buy from newegg.. They aren't the cheapest.. They don't do price-match.. Try Memory express or NCIX.

I'll take a look at those mobos in abit, had no idea about the whole Gigabyte RMAs in Canada, good to know. And I'm just going to be using one monitor, not 100% sure what resolution yet. I'll have to talk to the store which I am ordering the parts through. Plus ask if they can ship stuff back for me if its DOA or anything. Just using newegg to price check I suspose.

Depending on your budget for the graphics you may want to try to get a 560ti, 560ti 448, or 570. On the and side of things the 6870 and 7850 are good choices. You never know if you'll upgrade your monitor later!

Don't buy gigabyte... i had to rma a motherboard...$42 shipping and had to return and complain 3 times before i finally just took a partial cash refund just to end the agony, also try and bump the graphics card up to at least a 560Ti.

What about Asus motherboards? I'm looking at a few of those right now. And I've also found a GTX 550 Ti that has 2GBddr5 instead of 1GB.
