I happen to have that very notebook, and it is awesome. It's not the best in untethered situations as the hardware tends to drain the battery fairly quickly. I replaced the hard drive with an SSD, although drive performance wasn't really all that bad to begin with in the first place.

If you are looking for a solid desktop replacement, and don't mind lugging this around, it will work beautifully in those regards. But that desktop build will easily outperform the notebook any day, with everything that you throw at it and is, for lack of a better term, much more "future proof" as it will support more upgrades, and probably still run quieter. Yeah, it is a pretty warm running notebook.

Ask yourself this, do you require performance, or portability?

I would recommend the desktop for it's performance, and expandability. If you absolutely require something mobile, that notebook is great, albeit somewhat cumbersome.

What are you planning to use it for?

I agree with BryceBooth, if performance is what your after, then the desktop is the way to go. The parts you have chosen are very good.
