My System Specs

Default Make Me A Build <$500 !?

I don't think i7 is needed. Intel only too (Edit: I now accept AMD aswell) since we already have an i7 and i5 in the house but we don't have any 3rd gen ones.

I don't need too much graphics power but I want something that will last and is fast.
Infact, I might not even need a seperate GPU, the PC will mostly be used for you tube and ocasional gaming like League Of Legends, Starcraft, and San Andres

For the 500 dollars, exclude pricing for Hardrive, PSU, Optical Drives, mouse keyboard because I have those already.

Also note, I have DDR2 Ram (2 sticks 512mb each) so its up to you if you want to include those and get more DDR2 ram or just jump up to DDR3 with the new architectures.

Thanks!

You're better off buying a OEM PC imo. Much better bang for buck than custom build.

Having said that, I'd put my focuses around the AMD APUs.

Disagree with that!

Try an AMD IGP build:

AMD A8-3870K -- $115
ASUS F1A75 - $93.00
Kingston HyperX 2x4GB -- $49
Bitfenix Shinobi ATX Case -- $70
Antec Green 430W PS -- $50

Total: $377. Capable of playing the games that you mentioned.

trust me you don't want anything from AMD right now...you just can't get better bang for your money unless you are trying to make a SFF media center ONLY!

that said, here are the build I would suggest:

Build #1 power house on the cheap (gaming)
Corsair XMS3 Dominator 1333 @ 32$ (I have 2 sets of these in my own rig and 2 more sets bought by friends and they ALL clock no problem to 1600 C9 1.5v)

ASRock H61M-HVS @ 55$ you won't need anything more than this for a SB based build that you won't OC (not recommended at this price)

Intel Core i3 2120 @ 110$ very very cheap CPU that is going to do much better at the only CPU intensive game you mentioned (SC2) than the best AMD CPUs (you won't need any more than this for gaming on a budget as most games are only optimized for 2 threads anyways)

Radeon HD 7950 @ 340$ you are going to have more graphics horse power than most people around. very price efficient!

Generic Cheapo Case @ 39$ absolutly no reason why you should spend more than this on such a budget build

Total: 510$

Build 2 elegant cheap build (for web browsing and light gaming)

Lian Li PC-A04B @89$ very beautiful aluminium case!

Enermax ETS-T40-TB @29$ very very good and silent heatsink for quiet and cool browsing/gaming!

Gigabyte Radeon HD 6850 Windforce @ 140$-10MIR decent but not overkill and rather silent (I think, can't tell you first hand)...should do the job for the task you described.

Total: 445$ (after the 10$ MIR)

Feel free to mix and match between the 2 builds if you want more cooling/silence on the gaming rig or would want to use a more powerful gpu on the 2nd build...although that might make you go over budget.

Free shipping!

P.S. the fact that you would even consider using DDR2 ram makes me doubt the quality of your PSU so you might wana take a look in THIS or THIS for either build respectively!

I would suggest a nice AMD build here. Check this, the case and gpu are changeable of course depending on your preferrences. The cpu can be overcloacked like crazy if you want to use it for more intense operations later as well (mine is @ 4.5ghz)

AMD Bulldozer FX-4100 Quad Core Processor 3.6GHZ Socket AM3+ $114.99

ASUS M5A97 AMD970/SB950 ATX AM3+ $93.99

G.SKILL F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL Ripjaws PC3-12800 4GB 2X2GB DDR3-1600 $28.02

Thermaltake Commander Black ATX Mid Tower $55.47 - $10 mir

Antec Neo Eco 450C Power Supply $39.99

Gigabyte Radeon HD 6670 $73.00 - $15 mir

Total: $405 - $25 mir

Best candidate for an AMD APU. The build that great_big_abyss posted is great. Here is mine

AMD A8-3870K APU w/ Asus F1A75-V EVO Motherboard at Memory Express 199.99 for mobo+cpu+gpu

Corsair Builder Series CX430 V2 Power Supply at Memory Express 49.99 for corsair brand PSU

Bitfenix Merc Alpha ATX Mid Tower Gamer Case, Black at Memory Express 39.99 for a bitfenix case

GSKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB PC3-10666 Dual Channel DDR3 Kit (2 x 4GB) at Memory Express 47.99 for 1333mhz 8 gig ripjaws

Total: $337.96

This leaves you with enough money for a 60 gig SSD for a boot drive/gaming drive!

EDIT: This build also allows for a new copy of windows if you don't feel like running Ubuntu :)
