Asus or Gigabyte

A friend wants to build a new computer for Photoshop/Lightroom use now and then down the road video editing using Win7 x64. I narrowed down the mb memory and CPU to these two:


P8Z77-V PRO w i5-3570K and Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 1600MHz CL9 Dual Channel Kit (4 x 4GB) CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9

vs

GA-Z77X-UD3H w i5-3570K and Corsair Vengeance 16GB PC3-14900 DDR3 Quad Channel Kit (4 x 4GB) CMZ16GX3M4X1866C9R

I have seen people post in another forum that the P8Z77-Pro was having problems with memory generating error 55s whereas the Gigabyte board seems to have problems with VIA USB3 drivers not working properly generating BSOD coming out of hibernation/sleep. In the past I have built computer with both brands of motherboards.

I had a problem a couple of yrs with a bios for a Gigabyte board and GB support swore there was nothing wrong with the BIOS until others started reporting the same problem.

My question is have others here had prolems with either of these two motherboards?

Had problems with gigabyte in the past.. Clincher for me would be that Asus seem to have much better support and rma.

Avoid gigabyte if you can, their only RMA is in California, whereas Asus hasa facility in Canada. That and I'm starting to have a poor track record with Gigabyte boards

Hmm thanks for the valuable information. I usually use Asus for builds and so far leaning that way myself.

if you want an rma as bad as going to the dentist chose gigabyte lol

if you want bad bios support chose gigabyte

their main focus is marketing

Why not compare the V Pro with the similarly priced UD5H-WB?

1) Gigabyte has 3 PCI-E 3.0 slots. Asus has 2.
2) Gigabyte has 5 SATA6 ports, Asus has 4.
3) Gigabyte has dual LAN, Asus has single.
4) Gigabyte has the latest Realtek ALC 898 audio chip, Asus has the older 892.
5) Gigabyte has Bluetooth 4.0. Asus has no Bluetooth except for $300++ Deluxe and $400++ Premium.

The guys made a good point about after service, but when it comes to Z77, Asus is resting on its laurels, overpricing its motherboards while offering the least futures, while Gigabyte is doing the exact opposite.

I can't speak to those exact motherboards, but I've used both Gigabyte and Asus Mobos on the 1366 chips and was infinitely more impressed with stability and performance with the ASUS boards. In all honesty, I think the Asus P6T Deluxe V2 i had was far better than the G1. Sniper gaming board I got from Gigabyte.

I set up a friend's computer with an ROG 1366 and just couldn't believe how much nicer it was than the price comparable Gigabyte boards.

Others might have a different experience though.

I haven't had the greatest experience with gigabyte boards lately. Bios support on my 990fx-ud3 was attrocious. I think that asus's offerings are a bit better at the moment.

While I'm all for value for money I'll take a stable build and good rma over a couple of extras that aren't needed any day.. Not everyone thinks the same.. but my opinion stands for the ASUS>gigabyte
Less headaches>more features
