I'd step up to the 7870. It performs way better than the 7850.

If you can live without mass storage for now, it'd be better to grab a boot SSD, then add a HDD later when pricing goes down a bit more...

Funny story, this is the guy I work with. From what I know, this is all gonna be bought local at Canada Computers in Brampton.

We pieced together a build today with an quad core Ivy Bridge and an MSI 7850. Would end up hitting just about the limit (without pricematching). Hyper 212+ was abandoned since it's not for personal use, overclocking seems too risky on a computer that he's giving to somebody else in the end.

The main reason for the 6GB kit is because it's only a couple bucks more than the 4GB. He's gonna keep the extra 2GB stick as a backup, run it as 4GB in dual channel.

And the number one thing that was never mentioned, the guy he's building this for is on a 19" monitor. Everything here is far overkill

With windows 7 and a few other things (chrome with about7 tabs, skype, messengers etc) I run at about 3.75GB ram used... add in a game and your looking at virtual memory on the hdd/sdd..

With the price of ram.. unless your running 32bit os.. go for 8 GB..

Who is the end user?
private owner, gamer, office work?
I would say if they can use the extra power then oc it.. (at a resonable level not stressing anything)

if they will not OC it would be worthwhile to drop to a i5 2400/3450/3550
