would you still recommend just the dual core?
I would, you would be surprised what I've got running of what I suggested (Intel E5800 LG775 very solid cpu) if you can find it- I just looked on NCIX and no dice. More than enough for an office setting.

If your dead set on a more powerful CPU....an Intel i5 would be my choice. (seems like overkill though based on your offices needs.)

I would suggest write down your min. mobo requirements, than go to the manufacturer website and look through your options.

Find what you need/like and get you retailer of choice to order it if they don't carry it in stock.

Also, when you have a good idea of what you need and what it should cost you can ask a retailer Rep to help you settle on something (might even have a board you didn't even think of).

I'm sure some other members will post some more helpful comments later (when they wake up lol)

thanks for the tips!

as of now im playing right into ncix marketing looking at the most popular pages haha

Im struggling thinking of requirements though...

the i5 seems a lot more expensive then the phenom II... what about an i3?

I guess I have to choose CPU so then the socket type is a requirement for the mobo..

so right now, ddr3(I think?), usb 3.0, on board audio and video, and thats all I can think of atm

While I'm not as familiar with what they do as you are.. 2 normal sized screens are brilliant for improving efficiency when someone needs multiple applications to work.. (and larger screens with better res is better again but the cost sky-rockets)

Could be simple as being able to read info and type a mail at the same time.. worth a look if it falls in budget and the space they have available.

if it becomes an issue I can easily add a video card in the future.

Okay so new build so far..

after looking at cpu prices it seems like I might as well go with this quad core because its cheaper then even the i3's...

also, its an amd chipset so everything should work flawlessly I hope..

So far..

same cpu

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Quad Core Processor AM3 3.4GHZ 8MB Cache 125W 45NM Retail Box - AMD - HDZ965FBGMBOX

new mobo

ASUS M5A88-M mATX AM3+ DDR3 AMD 880G 1PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 1PCI USB3.0 SATA3 DVI HDMI Motherboard - ASUS - M5A88-M

new ram with dimm 2 1333 mhz ddr3 (2 sticks of 4gb)

G.SKILL F3-10666CL7D-8GBRH Ripjaws PC3-10666 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1333 CL7-7-7-21 1.5V Memory Kit - G.Skill - F3-10666CL7D-8GBRH

anyone know of cheaper ram?? Maybe I dont have to follow the certified vendor list from asus?

new case

Bitfenix Merc Beta Steel Black ATX Mid Tower Case 3X5.25 7X3.25 1X2.5 *No PS* Top USB2.0 Audio - BitFenix - BFC-MRC-100-KKX2-RP

Should I buy a second fan??

Just need a power supply, HDD, and optical drive.

Any thoughts on this build?

Kingston memory (anything) is reliable as hell.

Kingston ValueRAM KVR1333D3N9/4G 4GB 1X4GB DDR3-1333 240PIN CL9 DIMM Memory - Kingston - KVR1333D3N9/4G

$21.98 per 4gb stick

even if its not on the qualified vendors list? will it still work in the dual ram mode or whatever that's called?

Something to consider:

AMD A6-3650 APU W/ AMD Radeon 65XX HD GFX Quad Core Processor Socket FM1 2.6GHZ 4MB 100W Retail Box - AMD - AD3650WNGXBOX

ASUS F1A55-M LE mATX AMD A55FCH FM1 APU DDR3 SATA3 2PCI-E16 1PCI-E DVI VGA CrossFireX Motherboard - ASUS - F1A55-M LE

Slightly less processing power traded for much better integrated graphics. Not sure just how much processing power you'd really need, anyways.

I second the AMD apu's, set one up for my wife and she does all her business school work on it.
