freenas build
Hey I'm going to be building a freenas box with probably a a norco 8 or 12 bay hot swappable 2u case. I'm looking to maximize reliability for the price.
I'd like some help choosing a stable motherboard. I seem to always use gigabyte or asus, but do you guys think an intel or supermicro would be better?
I'd like to keep the price of the board around $100, lower preferably, but am willing to spend more if necessary.
I would like to have at least matx so i have some options for adding a dual nic and possibly sata/sas controller cards for the 8-12 bays.
I have an e5200 and a few 775 boards around, but I've read that the celeron g530 (1155)would be great for this application, since its sandybridge, a bit more powerful, cool and its about $50.
I will be installing 4 drives initially, but more later, and using raidz1 or raidz2 Also besides reliability, I'll most likely be teaming 2 gig nics, so the cpu will need to handle that.
