Smile New Workstation/Gaming rig ideas?

I'm looking to build a mid level workstation (video editing) gaming (1080p) rig for under $1000

I need a parts list (including keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, etc...

It has to be under or maybe a little above $1000 for the total cost

Maybe look at an AMD system: 1090T cpu and asus or giga board. For video card 560Ti or 6950 perhaps. You should be able to shoehorn the rest of the stuff into your budget.

That doesn't sound like a bad idea. I'll do some looking on NewEgg and see what I can pull together. Thanks!

Not to be a smart-ass, but where do you plan on finding an AMD Phenom II 1090T, nobody sell them anymore.

My recommendations, if you go AMD:
CASE: CM 690II Basic
MOBO: ASUS M5A99X EVO
PSU: Seasonic M12II 620
CPU: AMD FX-6100/6200, whichever is out now
RAM: Cosair Vengeance 2x4GB DDR3
HDD: WD Caviar Black 500GB
Optical: LG 22x Super-Multi DVD Burner
OS: MS Windows 7 Pro (to save money you can go Hme Premium)

I find monitors to be a very personal preference driven by a combination of vanity, spec's and budget, so do your research; and I always buy monitors locally, unless you live in middle of nowhere.

Use NCIX for the purchase and PriceMatch with items at Newegg.ca, MemoryExpress, BestDirect & DirectCanada - use Shopbot.ca as your basic item comparison tool.

Ncix still has a few 1055T's in stock according to their site. I played with a 6100 bulldozer a few months back, definitely not my favorite chip for games as it lacks single threaded performance even when overclocked. So maybe a 2500K or 2600K would be a better way to go? It would be a bit more money though.

Just so you know, the M5A97 is NOT capable of Nvidia SLI. It will run a single nvidia card, but will only run AMD cards in crossfire. Just keep that in mind. If you stay with that MB and video card, you won't have the option of buying another 560TI in the future and SLIing them.

If that's not an issue for you, and you never plan on SLIing, then all fine and dandy. That is a great board for the price.

Also, you're much better off going with a PII 965. They're on sale at NCIX this week for $109. The 965 will perform just as well or better than the 4170.
