Default Hard Drive help.

I wanna buy an SSD but I wanna see how fast my current hard drive is. Anyway there is a program to test it? Might come as a dumb question since SSDs are faster but I wanna know how fast.

Unless you have a WD Black drive.. SSD will ALWAYS be faster.

mentioned program OR HDtune HD Tune website or HDtach, HDtune works fine with windows 7, I do not believe HDtune does and is not free anymore
Caviar black are in no way shape of form equivalent to any current SSD, they are at best like 1/2 the speed and thats for their top model(CB 2tb sata 6).

The only way to get a regular HDD close to the same speed as most SSD is to get a hybrid drive Seagate Barracuda XT, to use a drive as a Cache drive(many things to do this Corsair even sells drive specifically for this purpose making it super easy) or to run the CB in Raid considering thier current price, its just easier to get an SSD such as OCZ Agility 3 60/120gb, the only mechanical drive anywhere close is the Velociraptors, somewhat faster then CB 2tb but also very expensive for the small bump, you want speed, you go SSD its just easier.

I have a CB 640(obviously not the fastest of them) but my Agility 3 is easily double the speed of everything I have tested on it, the CB 640 partitioned/shortstroked is fast(around 118mb/s at its best near the edge of the disk with 160 burst or so SSD is some 220mb/s constant with a MUCH higher burst), faster then most HDD most folks use, but is not SSD speed, not at all.
