Default $900 - 1100 to play with..

Hey guys,

So I'm looking into getting a new gaming rig and was wondering what you guys (the experts,) would do with the money. I upgrade my computer once every two years and completely lose touch on computer hardware so instead of learning it all over again I thought id ask first. Main use is for Gaming and Modding Skyrim. It would be nice to load the Skyrim Tools faster.

Have:
Monitor (1920 x 1080)
DVD/CDR
Case

Budget = $900 - 1100

Thanks for help in advance.

Here are some of the better and newer stuff out that fit your price range. HTH

i5 2500k ~200 (not sure if you would want the i7 2600k for skyrim modding)
gtx 580 or radeon 6970 ~350 to 500
128gb SSD ~200
z68 chipset mobo ~150 to 200
8gb ram ~50

I have no clue what your preference for cpu cooler would be.

Cheers

The above recommendations are good, but remember new graphics cards are coming out (hd 7900 and 7700 cards already released and 7800 to come, and nvidia's card should be out in the next little while).

Also intel's new cpus should be out soon as well.

What are your current computer components?

Intels new cpus have been pushed back a couple months apprently. A Radeon 7970/7950/7870, 6950/6970, or GTX 560Ti 448 core are all good choices, GTX580 is kind of silly considering for the price of one you could spend a touch more and the Radeon 7970 is faster, or dual 560 448 cores also faster and around the same cost. I would go for a Radeon 7k series or see what Nvidia brings with Kepler(though if performance is what they claim they will be very expensive, and the Radeons will drop in price quite a bit)

2500k or 2600k with an aftermarket cooler, i.e Hyper 212+ with extra fan, Hyper 212 EVO, Zalman CNPS 10x performa with extra fan, Corsair A70, or Corsair H50/60/70 with extra fan for push pull, the coolermaster fans blademaster 76.8 cfm work very well for this
ASUS P8Z68-V or -V PRO
8gb at minimum of memory, ddr3 1600 class speed, Gskill such as Ripjaw, RipjawX, ARES, Sniper SE, Sniper SE low voltage etc, they end in model numbers GBXL, GBRL, GBXM, GBSR, GBSR2 etc
Radeon 7970/7870 or Nvidia soon to be out 600/700 series(whatever they may be calling them)
XFX650-750 power supply, Corsair HX750, Seasonic X-760, NZXT Hale,Enermax NAXN, Antec TP, any "good brand" Thermaltake, OCZ, Coolermaster, Ultra do not count :P
120 gb SSD such as Corsair Force GT, Crucial M4, OCZ Agility 3 (I think Corsair and Crucial way of updating firmware is so much better IMO)

cpu-~$200-$325
motherboard-~$175
RAM-8gb 1600 class Gskill ~$50
Cooler-$45-$110 :P
GPU-$285-$489
SSD-$130-$225
POWER-$60-$120
--------------------
$925-$1394 depending on your specific choices and such. If you go with a fancier model 7950 they overclock to equal to what a 7970 is, and save a few $, a 2600k can overclock very well so a 2700k is pointless, and there is also sandy-e i7 3820, the X79 boards are more $ but the performance is higher and the 3820 is supposed to be cheaper

My System Specs

CPU: 2500K $240
cooler: H80 with fans to preference, the stock ones are fairly good, but can be a bit noisy $110
MoBo: 100-150 range, this is basically your preference
RAM: corsair vengeance 2X4GB $55
GPU: 560 TI / 560 TI 448 up to leftover budget $260 - $340
HDD : 100-120GB SSD I'm not too well versed in the newer SSD tech so you'll have to get a referance from someone else on this. ~$200
PSU: corsair hx750 $160

base cost is about 1125, but with price match, you can probably get quite a bit lower. with the PSU, I'm also a bit out of touch, but it's still a good idea not to cheap out on this, and I'm familiar with the HX750.

I'd suggest MSI twin frozr for the video card. it's a lot cooler and can be OCed a bit more.
other than that, it's a good setup, some people might suggest asus over gigabyte, but I find gigabyte to be just fine.
