Opinion on New System

Good day everyone,

Its "tax return" time so its also the best time to get myself a brand new toy

Here is what i had in mind (future proof Gaming Machine):

- Asus Sabertooth X79
- i7 3930K
- G-Skill Ripjaws X 16gb 1866 (4x4gb) C9
- 2x Asus GTX 580 DCII
- Vertex 3 120gb SSD
- WD Caviar Black 1tb HD
- Corsair H100 (CPU cooling)
- Corsair Pro Gold 1200w PSU

As for the tower, i already have a Cooler Master HAF-X ... this should be ok to fit the 2 GTX 580s and the H100 radiator (i still have to read on that though to confirm)

Now, my question is, will the 1200w be overkill or would a 1050w be enough ?? Also, if i don't plan on doing any OC on the system, what parts could be replaced by something cheaper while still having top performance ?

I am very new at this "build it yourself" thing so be gentle with me hehe

Very nice build - truth be told thoug, if you're just interested in gaming, you could save a ton by basing your system around 1155 and a 2500K overclocked. Then go with a single 7970 and go with the lesser PSU and voila: hundreds of dollars saved and not much difference - add a second 7970 down the road when you feel you need a boost, and they're cheaper, and teh drivers a good.

You won't notice much improvement in framerates spending double on that lga2011 platform - you will get a little more futureproofing, but that doesn't seem to amount to much anymore - especially with intel, they'll kick the legs out from under you in a couple of years.

Might also aim for a CRUCIAL M4 SSD or one of the new Intel drives - they're worth the little extra money over the long term.

Have you considered the 7970's? Also, a corsair AX-850 psu is all you really need for two 580's. Other than that it looks like a nice build.

2x 7950s will get slightly better performance than 2x GTX580s for slightly less money. They will also be MUCH more efficient, and quieter.

Question: Won't a 7970 be bottlenecked by 8x bandwidth? 1155 mobo only offer 16x/8x. True 16x/16x = x79 or 990fx.

yup u will not notice at all x8 n x16 only buff a few frame rate...

No one even bothered to ask what Resolution you would be gaming on...? If high Res 2560x1440 or higher (multi monitors), then SLi 580 3GB (found cheaper the 2 x 7970's) or Crossfire 7970 will be better for you, go ahead with a PSU with some "poop" as having to replace it in a year or so cause you decide you want a bigger monitor (another monitor) will mean additional GPU and hence higher rated PSU, just plain sucks.
