Default New Build, need 2nd opinion.

So my GF decided that she wants a new Gaming rig. And specifically told me that she wants a GTX580 build under $1500 (including tax). I already have the list and want you guys opinion/thoughts about it.

Motherboard -
ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3 Motherboard Z68 LGA1155 ATX 3PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 2PCI HDMI DVI USB3.0 SATA3

Processor -
Intel Core i5 2500K Quad Core Unlocked Processor LGA1155 3.3GHZ Sandy Bridge 6MB

GPU -
EVGA GeForce GTX 580 Fermi 772MHZ 1536MB GDDR5 2XDVI Mini-HDMI PCI-E Video Card

RAM -
G.SKILL Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-24 Memory

Case -
Antec Nine Hundred Mid Tower Gamer Case 900 ATX 9 Drive Bay No PS TOP USB2.0 1394 Audio

PSU -
Corsair Professional HX750W 750W ATX 12V 62A 24PIN ATX Modular Power Supply Active PFC 140MM Fan

CPU Cooler -
Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H80 High Performance CPU Cooler System LGA775 1366 1156 1155 AM2 AM3

As for storage, we're salvaging hdd's and ssd from her current Computer.

The price after price matching and tax is just alittle over $1500.

Thanks in advance.

Seeing that you chose a PCI-E 3.0 SLI board, iF GTX 580 prices are still over $400, I'd go for a HD 7950. XFX, Gig, Asus or Sapphire. I would get the HX 850W just in case I decide to go for another card in CF and/or overclock. This I'm sure will be better.

As for cases, I respect other choices/tastes but I would trade the looks and ease of installation of the Antec any day for the better cooling and more quite Rosewill Blackhawk for the same price. This is just an opinion.

The only thing I'd question is the choice of case, but then again case choice is very personal on many levels. Does your GF absolutely love the look of the 900, or would she be open to other choices? (If so, what kind of coin did you have set aside for the 900 so that folks can make suggestions within the same budget?)

She's been using the Antec 900 for few years now so she doesnt want to change, though she's open for a 800D but its way too expensive for this build.

After doing some research and readings, is 7950 a better choice than 580?

The bottom line is as of right now the 7950 gives basically the same performance for less $ and less power consumption. That said GTX 580 prices MAY go down because of this. Also Nvidia SHOULD be releasing their new cards soon, though I am not sure when.

EDIT: Actually here is a GTX 580 for $469.99 (NO MIR) with free shipping.

Get her to pick a case (within budget) if your not re-using her old 900..

7950>580 (am an Nvidia fan but the heat and power draw of a 580 to a 7950.. with the prices as they are too.. 7950 wins it)

Wait 2 months for new nvidias if it's not an urgent build..
I always end up regretting buying just before the next big step. (even if it's a watt and heat improvement more than performance)

Agree with luay 79 on the PSU

600t or 650d are both FAR superior cases than a 900

^^^ Even a Coolermaster CM690 II Advanced would be a far better choice in Cases.....for only $90!!!!!

Coolermaster cm 690 II Advanced ATX Mid Tower Case Black 4X5.25 1X3.5EXT 6X3.5INT *No PSU* - COOLERMASTER - RC-692-KKN2

imho the 900 is a terrible choice for those great parts!!!

certainly not with 580's coming in at $400 or less, the 580 wins here!!!....lets not not forget Driver support which is HUGE in my books!!!

Where? New? I might drop these 6970's for a couple for new for that price. Teir 1 mind you.
I have found that most of these "driver issues" are xfire or eyefinity, as single cards I have to say my ATI's and now AMD's have been solid. A solid as the Nv counterparts I have in other rigs.

OP:
I take it the case is a reuse then?

And I vote for a hx850 also, keeps xfire/sli still with in reach, but I always prefer headroom on a PSU.

We're getting a new case since the old computer will be given to her brother. I've considered going for a 850w PSU but crossfire or sli wont be an option even later.
