Default Upgrading my rig

Looking at upgrading my rig. I'm fine with building myself, installing windows, etc. I'm just looking for some advice on sort of "best bang for your buck".

What I have:

Intel C2D E7500
4GB DDR2 memory
ATi 4870 video card
Conventional HDD
I believe a mushkin 550W psu

What I want:

i5 2500K
Motherboard I'm not too concerned about. something like gigabyte GA-Z68A-DH3-B3
Between 4-8Gb memory
Possibly throwing in an SSD if the price is right

The real problem I am having is with a video card. I don't have problems unlocking a video card, so if I can save a few bucks, I will. I'm more partial to ATi as well. I was thinking about a 6950 possibly a GTX 560.

If there is any other suggestions I am open as well.

Honestly your set-up is pretty decent why not wait for ivy-bridge and AMD 7870/7850?

A few thoughts.

Your plan is fine, but definitely go with 8gb Ram (its cheap now and 4gb can be used in gaming now). Since you are partial to AMD (ATI) graphics a 6950 is a great bang for buck. If you are not in a rush then intel's ivy bridge processors are just around the corner as are the rest of AMD's 7xxx graphics cards. There is always something new on the horizon, but these are not far away now if you can get by on your current system.

That sounds fine. It will take me a while to save up the funds necessary due to going to school this april. I see that they will be similar in price.

One other question. Will the current 1155 motherboards be compatible? Like I said, I'm saving up so I will probably be purchasing parts here and there to accumulate parts. If it's worth it to wait till april to pick up an ivy bridge, I will.
