My System Specs

Default Crosshair V + 6950 memory choice

Hello again.

System is:
Crosshair V
x2 255 3.0Ghz (to be upgraded soon if bulldozer performance and/or price improves, or piledriven).
WD Caviar Black 1.0 TB
Sapphire Toxic 2 gig 6950
resolution = 1680x1050
??? memory. 8 gig = 2x4gig desired.

Moderate OC on the processor is desired to improve gaming performance. Low noise is a must. Case currently has 2 noctua 92mm with room for 1x88+1x120 if case gets too hot from the new processor.

My friend has some cas 9 1600mhz corsair vengance dimms (4gigx2=8gig) and is willing to sell them for 50 bucks.

They are indeed on the QVL of the Crosshair V, but the crosshair V won't be paired up with a bulldozer processor atm, it will be paired up with a much slower x2 255 (3.0 GHz).

The rig's main and prevailing purpose is to game. MW 2+3, BO, BF3, BFBC2, HoN, DotA2,Skyrim, SC2, D3.

Is the cas 9 1600mhz 8 gig going to cut it in terms of not bottlenecking a future bulldozer upgrade? Or should i perhaps go with a value-ram 1333 8 gig kit?

My thoughts are it should be fine, but I feel uncertian that they'll even run stable @ 1600 mhz on an x2 255.

Thank you for your time.

Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 Vengeance 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-24 Dual Channel Memory Kit - Corsair - CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9

they might be worth it if they are a better revision

i bought a set of 1600 cas9 gskills snipers for my son for 35$ +tax they good for 1950mhz

also bought a set of 2133 cas9 doin 2250 cas9

should run just as good on amd

if i had an amd rig i would get better memory;)
on intel you can get away with cheap stuff

This is my experience with Corsair Vengeance.

I had the 16 GB 1600 Cas 9 with my computer, and i had instability problems running them at 1600 manually with 1.5v. Even increasing the voltage doesnt seem to help either. Downclocking them to 1333 mhz just to achieve 4.0 on my rig was a problem.

However, i have the 16 GB G. Skill with mine and i have no problem running them 1600 Mhz manually. And i was able to achieve 4.07 Ghz on my rig without downclocking my G. Skill to 1333 Mhz.

YMMV of course, but that was my personal experience with the Corsair Vengeance.

Thanks alot!

Yeah my friend wants to sell them because they do not get along with his 890fx mobo (i told him to check QVL but he didn't!).

I had misgivings when we could not get the memory to run even @ 1333 MHz, but I assumed it was the mobo.

I was actually wanting to get the g.skill snipers because they're low profile heat sinks and are really really cheap for what you get.

Thanks for helping me make up my mind
