Default First Gaming PC (Eyeinfinity)

Hi I'm new here. Was wondering if you guys thought this setup was good. I was going to buy all my parts from memory express.

Does memory express not offer the price beat if you use the system configurator? Want to get this as cheap as possible. Would it be better to get the parts from different suppliers that have the cheapest?

Here is the part list. PS I want to overclock it as much as safely possible.

1 x XFX Radeon HD 7970 3GB ($569.99)

1 x Intel Core™ i5-2500K Processor, 3.30GHz w/ 6MB Cache ($229.99)

1 x Corsair Vengeance LP 8GB DDR3 1600MHz (2 x 4GB) ($49.99)

1 x Asus P8Z68-V / Gen 3 w/ DDR3 1600, 7.1 Audio, Gigabit Lan, PCI-E, Quad CrossFireX / SLI ($194.99)

1 x Crucial M4 2.5in SATA III Solid State Drive, 128GB ($209.99)

1 x Corsair 1050W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($229.99)

3 x Asus VS248H 24in Widescreen LED LCD w/ HDMI ($209.99)

1 x Razer DeathAdder Gaming Mouse ($49.99)

1 x Saitek Cyborg V.7 Gaming Keyboard ($99.99)

1 x Corsair Hydro H100 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler ($99.99)

I would also like to crossfire the GPU in the future with at least 1 more, maybe have the option to have 3 total.

It works out as 3K CAD dollars delivered. How do I get this price down and is there any better parts you can recommend. Thanks in advance.

Good luck with your build. I have a few suggestions if you like:

You won't find any more 7970s right now and I'm sure many fully custom cooled models will be out the next time stores stock up. The XFX DD is semi-custom. Ref. PCB.

The Asus P8Z68-V does not support 4-way CF, and minimally supports 3-way with only 4x speeds at the third slot. Your best bet is the P8P67 WS Revolution for 3-way SLI but honestly I have read all the reviews on the net and not one site recommends more than CF for games. Driver support for 3 or more 7970s is minimal at best, zero at worst. As for the motherboard, you already plan on getting an SSD and a video card so the Z68 extra features are not useful for your build.

I would pay $100 more for the slower but twice the storage-sized SSD, the OCZ Agility3 240GB.

and another extra $100 for the VG236HE. You'r buying the best GPU so give it a worthy 120hz display or your games' FPS will be bottle-necked by what your monitor can display!

Did you choose a Case?

Just warning you that not all games properly support eyefinity (take a look at the thread in my signature about it) which can potentially lead you to be frustrated with it. It seems racing games tend to have nearly 100% support whereas shooters and RTS and RPG games are a lot of the time hit and miss.

Thanks for the reply. I will go with your suggestions. I probably will just go with 2 7970 in CF, thanks to your post. Hmm thats a good idea with the larger SSD, is it that much slower.

I have a 500 gig 7200rpm hd and a 2 TB external I might rip open and throw in.

Thanks for the monitor suggestion looks great.

Not too worried about the lack of eyeinfinity support I want 3 monitors and to play a few games on 3 screens would make me happy. :)

I was thinking the Corsair 600T would be a good case.

I think you'd be better off spending a 1000 bux on a dell ultrasharp 27 or 30 inch with a 2500x1600 resi instead of multi monitor

Hmm are there 24 inch monitors with that resolution? Was thinking of getting at least 2 to work and play

The Agility3 is not that much slower. Great bang for the buck.
The corsair Graphite with its stock fans looks good and is very quite. However two video cards in CF in it will not cool at the level that makes me comfortable. Add more fans and it's another story.

Best of luck on your build!

No there aren't really, and running eyefinity at that resolution would be awful. I suggest sticking with what you have. Some people prefer a large resolution to eyefinity, it's really up to you. 3x1080p monitors will run very well on your card. I'd also only opt for the 240GB SSD if you'll need it. I personally only play about 2-3 games at a time, so an 80-120GB is plenty for me in most cases. Otherwise your build looks good :) Pricematching at ncix will help bring down some of your prices as well.

Thanks for the replies seeing the overclock potential on the 7970 I will wait a few days until there is a proper water cooling method. I want to overclock this as much as possible.
