m-ITX Budget Gaming Build

1. What your PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
Playing SWTOR, web & graphic design.

2. What your budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
$400.00 - $500.00

3. What country you will be buying YOUR parts from.
Canada :canadianwave:

4. If you have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.
Nope not preference

5. If you intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
Lian-Li PC-Q08

6. If you have searched and/or read similar threads.
Couldn't really find any for ITX gaming

7. If you plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
Do not plan on OCing

8. When do you plan to build it?
Next 30-60 days

9. What resolution do you use?
LG 42" Plasma will be used for the monitor.

This setup will be in my living room so I will need it to be quiet so I am thinking about getting an Antec KUHLER H2O or Corsair Hydro series watercooling. I will also need a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Thank you in advance.

there are lots of micro-itx boards, for LGA1155 specially, if you don't plan on oc we guess you could go with an core i3 2100 but graphic design usually means a lot of processing, which would mandate a core i5, you can go with a non K version, now your only question would be what video card to use that fits that small case and what power supply you can fit in there. If it takes regular power supply I guess a used gtx460 would be a fair game. I don't think you can fit a hydro cooling system in that small cube case. Leave it alone and go with a regular option. is just that you have some conflicting options : gaming and working, small footprint, you want it quiet too and budget is not much. Using a TV means you will also play at a high resolution as 1920x1080? Because for just gaming a core i3 would be enough. The work is going to be serious or just some scketches? you proces something in massive amounts or light stuff? I have a friend says SWTOR runs fine on a GTX260 so i guess a GTS450 or GTX550Ti/Radeon 5770/6770 should work also fine

Foxconn H67S LGA 1155 - 65$
Intel Core i5-2400 - 200$
Kingston ValueRAM 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 KVR1333D3N9/2G -30$

300$ once. Prices from newegg.ca

The graphic design is nothing major, it's just using Adobe Fireworks. I was able to run that on my netbook.
The TV is only 720p. It's mainly going to be used for SWTOR.

Here is mine

Good luck.

That's a pretty interesting setup.

FROSTK|NG January 10, 2012 02:44 PM

I pulled the case down and it's not the Q08 it's the Q07 which for what I want to do is completely useless. So this opens my build up then. I was looking at maybe getting the Silverstone TJ08-E case. I forgot to mention I do have 1TB Seagate hard drive as well. I might be able to get my hands on GTX460 if it works.

I might be able to squeeze another $200.00 into my budget if I wait another month.

I will by Thurs if the GTX 460 works.

Well, that TJ08-E should allow you to get a H80 in there on the exhaust fan hole. But it might be tough to get a case, mobo, cpu, ram, cooler, and GPU in your budget. Really, you have to decide if you're going mATX or mini-ITX. I'd suggest a AMD based build to help the budget, as there's some fairly inexpensive mATX boards out there.

I think I will switch to mATX. This is what I have come with so far from Canada Computers.

Asus Maximus IV GENE-Z - $185.00
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz - $45.00
Antec KUHLER H2O 620 - $55.00
LG GH24NS90 SATA 24x DVD-RW - $25.00
Corsair Builder Series CX600 V2 600 Watt - $60.00
Silverstone Temjin TJ08B-E - $110

$480 before taxes

Just need to figure out a CPU

I think someone around here or maybe RFD is selling a 2500K for $190. Would be the perfect pairing with the GeneZ.
