I also did a budget AMD build with some parts from New Egg and Canada Computers.


MSI 760GM-P23 (FX) AM3+ AMD 760G - $60.00
G.SKILL Value Series 8GB 2x4GB DDR3 1333 - $35.50
Antec KUHLER H2O 620 - $55.00
LG GH24NS90 SATA 24x DVD-RW - $25.00
Corsair Builder Series CX600 V2 600 Watt - $60.00
Silverstone Temjin TJ08B-E - $110.00
AMD FX-4100 3.6GHz Quad Core - $130.00

Total: $475.00

Can't really call that a gaming built, no GPU!

What I did but had some boxing day prices:

Corsair 750 watt PSU - Already have
Storage HDD - Already have
DVD burner - Already have
Gigabyte 78LMT-S2P 760G board - $61
Kingston SSD now 64GB - $74
AMD Phenom x6 1055t - PM'd to $129.69
Antec mini p180 case - $50
G.SKILL Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL - $40
MSI Radeon HD 6950 Twin Frozr II OC 810MHZ 2GB - $199 (got a rebate of $40)
Coolit Eco CPU - $50

Total - $603.69 + shipping and taxes

You could get it down to $500 with a 6850 or used video card, and the SSD was not really necessary for a budget build, I just wanted to try em. You could also switch to a Phenom black ed. 955 and save like $15 more.

I AM kinda considering trying out an itx, I could use space and portability... and I am not a fan of gaming or doing serious work on laptops.

You never mentioned if you have a copy of an operating system you can use or not. If you're going windows that's gonna add about $120 minimum. Also I would stay away from FX chips for now their performance is lack luster in certain circumstances and also consume more power than the newer phenoms from what I have heard. Hopefully Windows 8 will fix the FX chip issues.
