Well I doubt I'd need 16gb of ram could I just put 8gb of it?

Of course. Ram is CHEAP right now and the dif between 16 and 8gb is prolly only 40 bucks or so. ;)

I think Corsair force GT or the Kingston HyperX ssds are a good value
