My System Specs

Default Need a quick build

Hi just wanting to build a comp for my little brother, couldn't think of one myself, haven't done much research on it, so I will like your suggestions please and thank you.

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
Small time gaming, and I guess watching movies.

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
500-600 CAD

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
Canada or USA

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.
Prefer Intel, but if it doesn't go with the budget AMD works too

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
Monitor

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
No

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
Everything at stock

8. WHEN do you plan to build it?
ASAP

9. What resolution do you use?
1680 x 1050 I presume

Here Is what I am thinking but the budget is too high so I'm trying to fix of ways to lower it any suggestions?

CPU:Intel Core i3 550 Dual Core Processor Clarkdale $130

Motherboard: MSI H55M-E23 mATX LGA1156 $90

Case:Antec Nine Hundred Mid Tower Gamer Case 900 $100

Heat sink:Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus $25

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL 8GB $47

PSU:Corsair TX650 $90
Good comp always starts with a good PSU and MOBO, Prefer to stick with this one unless suggestions pop up

GPU: XFX Radeon HD 6850 $150

CD drive: Anything good simple one I can find

Hard drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB 3.5IN 16MB Cache SATA3 Internal Hard Disk Drive HDD $90

I believe the total of these items about 690 without CD drive

Looks good to me as long as you aren't playing bf3 and expect good frame rates. Although you could go for a sabdybride i3 for about the same price. Also the 900 isn't a very good case, take a look at corsairs 400 and 500r cases.

Newegg.ca - Intel Core i3-2100 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz LGA 1155 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 2000 BX80623I32100
Newegg.ca - MSI H67A-G43 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel H67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Newegg.ca - CORSAIR Builder Series CX500 V2 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Swap the parts you have in the list for these instead. You won't be needing a 650W PSU for a HD6850 and with the savings you could squeeze in a better GPU like a HD6870, HD6950 or a GTX560 Ti.

Since you want to drop the cost to 5-600 I would be another vote for the switch to i3 2100 and an H67 based mother board. I would spend less on case and power supply (probably suggest a haf 912 and any xfx, seasonic, corsair, or antec PSU around the 600w mark..still quality, but cheaper). I would also use the stock cooler vice aftermarket on a cool running chip like the 2100. My suggestions should lowering the cost of your build while tweaking it some.

Slightly better performance than the 550 you have picked, same price:

Intel Core-$130, Use stock hsf to save $

Mobo:

Asus P8H61-M LE/CSM Rev 3.0 w/ Dual DDR3 1333, 7.1 Audio, Gigabit Lan, PCI-E at Memory Express-$75

Case:

Cooler Master CM 690 II Advanced Mid Tower, Black at Memory Express-$100

Ram, 8gb might be overkill so save $ on 4gb:

GSKILL Ripjaws X Series 4GB PC3-12800 Dual Channel DDR3 Kit (2 x 2GB) at Memory Express-$28

Available from Memx, make sure you price match, more potential savings there.

You have good deal listed on psu & hdd

In this price range I would consider looking at a Llano machine. You could build a decent A8 for significantly cheaper. If you need 6850 level performance it is a bit of a waste of the APU though since you can't hybrid crossfire anything past the 6670. That said hybrid with the 6670 gives you 6770 like performance which isn't bad.

Another option is a build around the Phenom X4 955.

Thanks for the feedback, So here the changes.
Case: Still the antec 900 II
PSU: Corsair Builder Series CMPSU-500CXV2
Ram:GSKILL Ripjaws X Series 4GB PC3-12800 Dual Channel DDR3 Kit (2 x 2GB) at Memory Express
Mobo:Asus P8H61-M LE/CSM Rev 3.0 w/ Dual DDR3 1333, 7.1 Audio, Gigabit Lan, PCI-E at Memory Express
CPU: I3 2100
GPU:XFX Radeon HD 6850
HD:Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB
CD: Some $20 one

I believe the total of this is about 660-670 after taxes if ordered online, and probably like 630 If I can pick up all the parts. Still would like to try to budget it a little more,

The only place I would cut back from there is the case.

Other than that you are looking at lowering the graphics card to something cheaper (hd 6770/ gtx 550Ti) or dropping it completely (and running off integrated) until you can afford to pick a decent one up.

For the case (just looking at this weeks NCIX sale) there is Antec 100 for $48 or Coolermaster Haf 912 for $55 (and a $10 MIR making it $45).

Also. Boxing week sales are just around the corner, and if they aren't a flop you will be able to save a few bucks for sure.

Sounds good, I guess I will get the haf 912, and hmm i think the 6850 for 150 and 120 after rebate is a pretty sweet deal and it runs most of the games at least decent quality with decent a frame rate
