Default SSD Advice

Trying to decide what kind of SSD would be best to add to my current system. Currently running an i2500K on a Gigabyte z68x-ud3h-b3 with a 640gb HDD internal and a 1TB external. My budget is in the $100~$150 range so I am thinking a 60GB is as large as I can afford. I'm unsure if I should be using it to install the OS and some apps or use it with the caching on the z68. I use my PC for gaming mostly, usually have 2 or 3 games on the go at once, plus AutoCAD Civil 3D work. I feel like I would be uninstalling/installing stuff on the SSD all the time so maybe the caching would be better since you get fairly close to the same speed as an SSD install, just not quite as fast. Any thoughts on which route to go and a good product to pick in my price range?

I would get an M4 and set it up as a caching SSD. That way you can accelerate your entire storage drive including the OS instead of just 60GB.

I myself have an Agility 3 with firmware 1.13 and its blazing fast, the M4 or any of the 3 series from OCZ will work well, for me it was price, I could have gotten an Agility 3 120gb for $145 shipped with taxes after pricematching to NCIX, but I did not have the extra coin so went with the 60gb model instead, its very fast, in my case, I use it as my OS drive(turned things off etc) I ue a caviar black 640 as my game drive, and a 1tb caviar blue for external drive, junk and such storage.

Basically anything using a SF2281, a Micron(forget which) or Indilinx Everest controller will work just fine, do make sure to try and find one that has an updated FW though, I know OCZ has a pita way of doing FW updates, but FW 1.13 and above will be just fine.

if you want bang for your buck, How about a corsair Force 3. it is only in the mid-range of all SSDs but it does the job well. Personally I won't be able to live with only 60g of storage. If you have another $40 why not get this, NCIX.com - Buy Corsair Force 3 Series 120GB 2.5IN SATA3 6GB/S Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD Sandforce SF-2200 - Corsair - CSSD-F120GB3-BK - in Canada.
