My build with some parts I already have

Video card: 2 x 6870 XFX
HD: 4 x 500 gb seagate barrucuda only sata 2 (Dont know the exact model number but they are single platter / need to have them in raid 0)
Back up HD 1 WD green 2 tB
Speakers: Edifier S5.1
Headset: Sennheiser pc 350
Case: Silverstone Raven 2
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

What I need:
Powersupply
Motherboard
Sound Card
Cpu Cooler


PLEASE when POST threads asking for input on system builds tell us...

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
Mostly gaming, Some programming C++/Java

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
Willing to spend another 600 - 700to complete the build

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
Canada, Ottawa Ontario tp be specific

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.
Intel obviously but still much love for AMD (htpc is AMD). Currently AMD these past 2 generations was an Nvidia fan boy before.


7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

Overclock it.


8. WHEN do you plan to build it?

Hoepfully soon I sold my 875K & MB.

9. What resolution do you use?
1920 *1200


For MB was thinking ASUS P8Z68-V Pro GEN3 Z68. Would I be able to raid 0 my hds with MB? Do you think it would be worth getting 1 ssd performance wise?

For powersupply would the Silverstone Strider 750 Gold 750W Modular Power Supply or should I go higher wattage.


Sound Card suggestion I have seen online are Asus Xonar Essence STX for the Sennheiser pc 350. Has any one tried the headset with other sound cards, opinions?

CPU Cooler: I once cancelled my order for the h100 because I could not find out if it would fit in my case. I read that there might be video card clearance issues (dont know how??) and I have 2. If anyone has had any experience with my case and the cooler that would be great. Looking for mostly performance but I dont want one that sounds like helicopter. Most recent cpu coolers I have tried.

Not sure if the PSU would have enough power for you . also most onboard sound is very good , good enough for most people, I had an asus zonar dx and I tried both onboard and the card using head phones and I can't tell the difference.

How about these power supplies? The strider is the cheaper one. I am hoping not to go into the 1000 watt psu. If just go with one ssd and 1 hdd do you think i could just use a 750 watt psu?

I've built a gaming rig for a friend of mine that has a HD6870 Crossfire with a 700W Corsair. It runs well without any problem and the specs are somewhat similar to yours so if you're planning for the 750W PSU it will be sufficient.

That Asus motherboard is nice, it will do. Almost any SSD these days will give you some performance boost. From what I've heard it even bests a Velociraptor RAID 0. You could use Intel SRT and use the SSD as a cache but for maximum performance, use the SSD as an OS drive. I've heard nothing but good things about the Xonar Essence STX and it is a good sound card with a proper headphone amplifier.

You would probably want to consider something like a H80 which would definitely fit the top 120mm exhaust. The performance might not be as good or similar to a Noctua NH-D14 but I'm more concerned over the fact that huge tower coolers don't go well with tall RAM heatsinks.

Wish i could get the

ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard but i think the sound card would block the second 6870 cooling.

This is an older board and the P67 chipset has less features compared to the Z68. Both are great overclockers and it would be better if you'd stick to the originally planned.
