BUILDING MY FIRST EVER PC NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hi, yea so im building my first ever pc and i kind know what im doing haha but am going to need help with what power supply to get and what case to get this is what i know im buying -Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB WD1002FAEX x 2 (in raid 0) -Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler -OCZ Agility 3 120GB SSD 2.5" (will be running my os) -Corsair CML16GX3M4A1600C9 16GB (4x4GB) Vengeance DDR3 -HIS Radeon HD6990 4GB -Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 Motherboard -Samsung SH-B123L 12X Blu-Ray DVD Combo Drive with Lightscribe -Logitech G510 Gaming Keyboard -Logitech G500 Laser Gaming Mouse -Amd FX-8150 3.6GHz cpu  yea so everyone knows that radeon 6990 is a huge GPU and is 12"/aprox 320mm and some case dont have the room for them i dont want to be taking out drive bays or having barley fit it in, it will look cramed and messy with case i also want a window that is a must have. with the power supply i want a fully modular one but i dont know what brand to go with as i new to building i have been watching LinusTechTips on youtube almost everyday for weeks but still i dont know what to get the antec truepower quattrow 1200w looked pretty good but the PCI express cable that is pre attached is 8 pin and 6 pin on one cable so if i go with that i would have to run 2 PCI express cable to my GPU because it take 2 x 8 pin conections so yea i need help and fast Any help would be great |
You'll need an AM3 or AM3+ CPU as well. |
I know lol i forgot to put the rest of info and hit enter and it posted it haha so i had to edit |
I would completely drop the amd processor. Go for a Z68 based motherboard and a 2500k/2600k. Either of those is a better gaming processor, uses less power, and is faster in 95% of applications. Also you don't need that big of a power supply (an 850w corsair/seasonic/antec PSU would be great). Check it out below. HWC 8150 review |

Understand on the psu, but for the cpu...a lot of people were waiting for bulldozer and I am an AMD fan (have one now), but bulldozer is a flop. Its a bypass generation for cpu. 6 core thuban (phenom II x6) often outperform it. |

I'dd really get the 2600k over any of AMD's offering. Even the 2500k.. heck, My i7 870 outperform bulldozer |
Well I'm not sure how much space you actually want but Linus actually did a review on the Corsair 500R and he actually sorta "placed" the 6990 into the case It fitted fine but yeah not too sure how much space you want. Its on his youtube channel if you wanna check it out. AND if your not in a rush probs wait for the ivy bridge series :) coming out march ish i think. |
The 6990... at a price point of 770 dollars, I would suggest you to just buy two 6950 2GB and unlock them to 6970s... They are 260 dollars cheaper, "quieter" and out performing the 6990... (Using more juice though) 6950 2GB: NCIX.com - Buy Powercolor Radeon HD 6950 800MHZ 2GB 5.0GHZ DDR5 2XDVI HDMI 2x Mini DP Dual Fan PCI-E Video Card - PowerColor - AX6950 2GBD5-2DH - in Canada I am very impressed with your courage to buy the bulldozer, even knowing how much it is outperformed in various benchmarks and reviews. (I didn't say it is a very wise decision though) As far as PSUs, I have 2 from coolermaster, very solid and quiet so far. NCIX.com - Buy Coolermaster GX 750W 80+ Power Supply SLI ATX12V V2.31 24PIN Active PFC PCI-E 120MM Fan - COOLERMASTER - RS750-ACAAE3 - in Canada |
