Default My New Build

I waited for months to do a Bulldozer build, but I was sadly disappointed with the benchmarks. I was thinking about waiting for SB-E or Ivy Bridge also, but just couldn't wait anymore with so many good games coming out. I bought the Witcher 2 at launch and still haven't played it yet

I purchased the following parts from NCIX today, but I have until Thursday to make any final changes before it's built. All feedback is appreciated, as I'm still new to building custom PC's.

My budget is $2000.00 CAD, and Iíll primarily be using the computer for gaming. Outside of my build budget, Iím also going to purchase new speakers (thinking of getting Corsair SP2500) and a new monitor (undecided on brand and size 1920x1080 or 2560X1440).

Parts:

CPU: Intel Core i7 2600K $314.99 price matched
MB: MSI Z68A-GD80 (G3) $239.99 price matched + $20 rebate (wanted GD65 but it was out-of-stock)
Case: Corsair Graphite Series 600T (White) $159.99 price matched
Cooler: Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H80 $ 83.99
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 570 HD $329.99 price matched
+15.00 rebate (SC version was out-of-stock)
PSU: Corsair Gold AX850 $165.99 price matched
RAM:
Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600 $54.99 +10.00 rebate (CORSAIR Veng. out-of-stock)
SSD: Crucial M4 SSD Micron C400 128GB $204.99 price matched
(picked over OCZ Vertex 3 120GB)
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB $79.99 price matched
DVD: LG GH24LS70 24X SATA Lightscribe $19.99
O/S: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium $99.97 price matched
Reader:
nGear Flash Card Reader 3.5IN $12.99

$1817.86 - $45.00 in rebates
Total= $1772.86

I'm considering picking up another 570 for SLI, and maybe even dropping the SSD but I'm still undecided.

If all you are doing is gaming, the 2500K will be more than enough for your needs.

As I recommend for everyone who wants high end gaming, drop the SSD and step up from a 570 to a 580. SSD will give you a fast os and great level/load times but contributes nothing to the actual game experience, unlike a faster video card. 570 SLI would be a little faster but basically that's the end of your options - that is, if you go 580 you can still add another one later but still have outstanding single card performance in the meantime with no chance of SLI microstutter issues.

Really, both are high end luxury items, and only you can say which is priority #1. I voted with my dollars and got more card, no SSD.

Also, Perry is right if gaming and surfing are your main activities. They are mine, and I haven't been able to make it choke yet. I can surf full speed with Prime95 blend going in the background.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm actually taking a second look now at GTX 580's, and started reading up more on microstutter issues. I'm also second guessing the SSD, because you're right...it's more of a luxury item, and I can use the $200+ for more GPU performance.

On a side note...I'm really excited to see what new cards come out in the next few months. ;)
