Note that 5770 ~= 6770 performance wise, although there may be some random new feature (not gaming related) that the 6770 is supposed to have. I wouldn't try to compare 6770 to 6790 with respect to how powerful they are compared to a 6850 because the 6770 has half the memory bandwidth as the 6790/6850 and that will matter on texture-heavy games.

That said, a 6850 is obviously as step up from a 6770 for that memory bandwidth alone, but you can read reviews like the Anand one I posted up to see if it's worth the money.

Also, I have no objections to Kommie986's build posted above.

I'd be playing at 1360x768 for the first bit of time, but I'll likely get a 1920x1080 monitor really soon. So would it be worth the price difference? Thank you both for your information

A 6850 will rape 1360x768, but may struggle a 'lil bit at 1920x1080 (at higher settings). But look for good overclocker (6850), read some reviews of the non-reference ones.

Thank you, but how would it do compared to a 6770? Is the price difference worth it?

I would say so, since you are planning on upgrading to 1920x1080.

I'd suggest going with an AMD build, although performance can lack in certain areas the price is more attractive and in this case preferable for your budget.

I think its a joke that someone would believe a i3 would be a better solution then a X6. Especialy when you think futureproofing & moving forward parallelism/multithreading of core based architecture is where its at, multitasking, encoding, gaming/os/torrents & ect. Also most the X6's also oc to 4 ghz so 6 core @ 4 ghz is gonna be a more powerful platform to use then 2 cores & i believe 2 fake threads with them @ x ghz.

Also OP 6770 is abit simular to the 5770 but abit more preformance & udv3 upgrade on it. If your going to do any future gaming @ 1920x1080 you should mininaly be looking at the 6870 1 gigger's which ive seen hadable for around $150 price point.

Having a x6 setup at 4Ghz, I will be a bit bias.... Go AMD, an x6 for what $160 is easily the best cpu for that price point. Get a AM3+ board and your future proofed as much as you can be on a budget. Just my 2 cents.
