Urgent - My New $2600 System - Opinions?

Hi,

I'm going to buy the parts from NCIX in two days, and have them assemble it for me (since I really do not have the time or the nerve to do it myself!)

This system is gonna be used for gaming, programming, graphic design, and running heavy engineering simulation software.

After extensive research, this is what I came up with:


CPU: Intel i7 2600K 3.4 GHz

CPU Cooler: Coolermaster Hyper 212+

Motherboard: Asus Maximus IV Gene-Z

Memory: 2 X (G.SKILL Ripjaws X 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600 CL8-8-8-24 1.5V)

GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 580 Fermi 772MHZ 1536MB

Case: Fractal Design Define R3

Power Supply: Corsair Professional HX850W 850W

Monitor: Dell U2312HM (Had 4 U2311H, all of them had tinting issue)

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium

HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB

SSD: Intel 510 - 120 GB

Blu-Ray Writer: LG BH12LS35 Blu-Ray Writer

Wireless Adapter: TP-LINK TL-WN822N

Flash Card Reader: nGear Flash Card Reader 3.5IN

Keyboard: Microsoft SIDEWINDER X4 Keyboard

though way overkill psu for a stock system with one 580

hell for that budget i would stick in the 27 incher but thats just me

screw the extra moneys for case etc and put it where it cunts.

This is sending mixed signals to me... Are you getting the GENE board for its sound card?

Why a mATX board if you're putting it in a 20+ lbs case that can support full ATX?
Also if you're getting a high-end motherboard, there's no reason to hold back your overclocking with a midrange cooler. Swap the CPU cooler for a Prolimatech Megahalems or Corsair H series water cooler if you want to go that route.

If you don't plan to overclock much, then keep your Hyper 212+ (so you don't use the noisy stock cooler) and downgrade the motherboard to something in the $140-$160 range.

You'll want to check if some of those bits of software have a random requirement for Windows 7 pro. I'm not sure how relevant this is anymore, but in the Windows XP days, there were some programming and simulation environments that did not work in the "home" OS.
