Not trying to discourage you here. You are facing the same situation I was/am still looking at. The biggest hurdle you are going to face is that the socket 775 stuff is 3 generations behind current technology, and in the next couple months will be down another generation.

560 series cards run in the neighbourhood of $180+ new. If you are going to get that decent a card, you should definitely look at newer board/cpu combo. You are going to have to go that route at some point, might as well start now.

you will probably benefit more from a cpu+mobo upgrade than a gpu upgrade which will, yes,be bottlenecked heavily.

look up ncix specials for a 2500 build.

its like you have a 4 cyl truck and you need to haul 8k pounds,. sure you can buy and install an old v8 in there, but the cost vs

future of the rig wont be worth it.

2500k and mobo and 8 gigs should be around 350-400 depending on the mobo, ram.

50-70 for psu

around 200 for the card

and so on.

Do you absolutely need an Intel based build? Why not look at an AMD Llano based build. Has DirectX 11 capable integrated graphics, so you could hold off on getting a video card for a bit.

Maybe something like this NCIX.com - Buy NCIX Bundle ASUS F1A75-M Pro mATX FM1 Motherboard & AMD A8-3850 APU Retail - AMD - A8-3850-F1A75-MPro - in Canada

Buidling your own isn't that difficult.

Dan is talking about sockets there...not dollars.

The socket 775 is what you currently have.

The socket 1155 is the current Intel.
