Default 3D Battlefield 3 build

My internet friend was looking for someone to make a build for him for a max budget of 2400$ with the express interest in playing BF3, plus he plays a lot of BC2 right now. BC2 has some of the better 3d support and for playing battlefield 3 at 60fps I thought 2400$ was over kill. So I'm going for the goal of 120FPS so it can be played in 3d.

He has keyboard/mouse/Speakers/desk/chair. He wants to replace everything else.

Build is relavent up until August 30th, hopefully he actually puts some thought into it.

Let me know what you think.

so it comes out to
2,240.00 including assembly
plus 5% GST and 1.5% shipping insurance
=2385.60$ CND

No shipping cost because the patriot drive comes with free ground shipping for entire order.

Oh and it comes with 120$ in Mail In Rebates

i wouldnt get 560's for 3d gaming and such. 580 and add a second one later on(edit because nv sux you do need two cards...one 6950 can drive 3 monitors but oh well...save for two 580's but stil lwith new cards coming out soon..i wouldnt set the gpu's in stone right now...the 2500k at least for gaming should stay competitive even after dozer hits, perhaps not so much for other things but..)

that blue will be ok but not that fast for os. try to replace it with a green since the ssd will do fine for the os

i wouldn't get the 932 but hey. ahem 912(some will yell at this comment)

maybe try a seasonic or corsair psu? :)

nice ocoler, but get an hr-02 macho or the like.

gd65 for the win, though you may look at the z68 as well. theres a new version of it out, btw.

i wouldnt let someoen assemble it for me,though it may be worth it for the testing purposes(guaranteed to work,at least...)

and for the monitor and 3d glasses, id like to leave that to the connoisseurs around here.

Don't think 2 560's will drive BF3 with 3D at 60fps... you might have to try for 580's.
Also that PSU is a little lacking, go for something from corsair or seasonic.

580 is a terrible value though. two 560 ti's would do 1.5x(even more when OC) what one 580 could do for the same price. my problem with saving for another one is nobody ever does that because the prices simply don't go down over time. they just discontinue it and sell it at full price way past it being obsolete.

I want those drives to run in Raid 0 and those green drives have power saving options that really screw up Raid arrays.

cooler is 8 dollars more and doesn't include any fans :| I already think 60 dollars is way to much for a cooler.

I'd like a corsair but nothing is on sale this week and that PSU comes with a 30 dollar MIR

Also at $65 you can get a 2TB drive when they're on sale, and 2 560s will still struggle with 3D with BF3. And you can always order a 2nd 580 off of evga's bstock since they sell them at good prices when they're discontinued.

I dunno I have 2 GTX 460s and even with one turned off I still get 60FPS in Bad Company 2 with 8x MSAA. Battlefield 3 doesn't look that much more graphically intensive. I'm much more worried about CPU bottleneck. Those 560ti's in SLI overclocked will easily outrun the 2500k. to spend the same amount on a system with a 580GTX that will preform noticeably worse doesn't make much sense to me. only reason to go for a 580GTX would be if you wanted to go with 3 monitors. I need raw FPS speed.

I'm trying not to go overkill.

Maybe should hold off on the drives they are the one piece that seems over priced.

Those numbers seem conservative, the minimum doesn't really mean anything so much as the average. all I know is with one 580 it would be completely unplayable and another 580 would call for serious compromises in the rest of the build. Overclocked you are averaging in the 50s easily.

Might have to lower the AA or take off SSAO but other than that I think it'll be alright

I would at least go with 2x570 or 1x580 for now. It's really hard to say what it will need, but as everyone else has suggested 2x560 will more than likely be insufficient for 1080p 3d.

Looking at those numbers posted, the amount of fps you gain from taking off AA/SSAO will likely be countered by how much more demanding BF3 will be than BC2. 46FPS average and 33 minimum would severely disappoint someone spending $2500 on a new PC. Also, the numbers posted here are far more trustworthy than other sites if you ask me. Sky is very open about his testing and fair. Conservative is more a measure to how inflated other websites may be.

You should also start pricematching to get some better prices.

Monitor is $325 here - Newegg.ca - Acer GD235HZbid Black/orange 23.6" 2ms(GTG) Widescreen 1080p 120Hz 3D-Ready LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 80000:1

Hard drive - get a 2TB seagate/WD for 65-70 bucks.
Case - not sure how your price is higher, but NCIX.com - Buy Cooler Master Haf 932 Advanced Full Tower EATX Case 7X5.25 2X3.5 5X3.5INT USB3.0 eSATA 1394 Black - COOLERMASTER - RC-932-KKN5-GP - in Canada
PSU - NCIX.com - Buy Corsair Professional Series HX1050 1050W ATX 12V 87A 24PIN ATX 80PLUS Silver Modular Power Supply - Corsair - CMPSU-1050HX - in Canada
RAM - you can price match that to $44 for 1600mhz, just bought the same kit for a similar build elsewhere. G.SKILL Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-24 Memory - DirectCanada
Mobo Combo - NCIX.com - Buy NCIX Value Bundle Deal Intel Core i5 2500K Quad Core CPU & MSI P67A-C43 DDR3 Motherboard - Bundle Deals - 2500K & P67A-C43 - in Canada
Windows - Microcad.ca | Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium - 64-bit - 1 PC
SSD - NCIX.com - Buy OCZ Vertex 2 Extended Sandforce 120GB 2.5IN SATA2 Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD - OCZ Technology - OCZSSD2-2VTXE120G - in Canada
Price match it here so you get
Cpu cooler -h70 - Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H70 High Performance CPU Cooler System LGA775 1366 1156 AM2 AM3 - DirectCanada

So here's the cart I made, it wouldn't let me PM a few thing. Total is $2400 less about $110 in MIR's that I can recall, with GTX 580s in SLI.

Just keep in mind that benchmarks are from SP and not MP, where most of the graphic intensive action happens.

Wow NCIX has to be one of the worst organized sites on the internet.

NCIX.com - Buy Cooler Master Haf 932 Advanced Full Tower EATX Case 7X5.25 2X3.5 5X3.5INT USB3.0 eSATA 1394 Black - COOLERMASTER - RC-932-KKN5-GP - in Canada
NCIX.com - Buy Cooler Master Haf 932 Advanced Full Tower EATX Case 7X5.25 2X3.5 5X3.5INT USB3.0 eSATA 1394 Black - COOLERMASTER - RC-932-KKN5-GP - in Canada

it's the exact same case on sale for two different amounts, and you still access the link to pay full price. this is the first link that comes up if you search for the case

NCIX.com - Buy Cooler Master Haf 932 Advanced Full Tower EATX Case 7X5.25 2X3.5 5X3.5INT USB3.0 eSATA 1394 Black - COOLERMASTER - RC-932-KKN5-GP - in Canada

it's not exactly price match if the Ram is way slower.

that's a totally different motherboard.

not buying a green drive or a 5200rpm drive. would rather black drives which cost even more.

Getting one 580GTX... I'm having trouble being nice. But that's a down right terrible idea. look at that chart, one 580GTX costs the same and it performs so much worse. upgrading later for what reason? it's a 2400$ build, I understand that for 2800$ I could get a faster PC but for 2400$ one 580GTX is a terrible investment.

SP could perform worse than MP. scripted events can drive down the minimums. I'm just going off my experience in contrast to the numbers they post. I think the numbers are great for comparing different cards but terrible for gauging expectations of your own performence. it tells me one card is faster than other and by how much but it doesn't tell me what kinda FPS I will get on a totally different rig.

My one GTX460 does much better than their graphs would imply it should so I'm just going off the assumption that the 560 ti should perform as much better as my own experience is in relation to their graphs.

Do appreciate the input and help but I'm still haven't heard anything convincing.

I'd change a few things:

- Buy a single WD Black in the place of two Blues.

- Replace the P67 with a Z68 board

- Eliminate Patriot SSD and replace with a single 60GB SSD for Intel's SSD caching with the Z68.

- With the money saved, upgrade the GPUs to 2x GTX 570.

* You can also save ~$175 through price matching as well.
