Default Change of plans...advice appreciated!

Ok, I am torn between 2 options :

Upgrade my Mobo/CPU/RAM to i5-2500k and push the most out of it I can.

Or.....I have 2 x Quadcore Xeon X5355 CPU's, a Tyan Tempest i500XT board, and currently 3GB of DDR2-667 FBDIMM (2 x 1GB, 2 x 512mb). For this option I'd get a 8GB kit of RAM for around $220 and 2 x Swiftech Apogee XT's with S771 adapter plates. These can be pushed to 3.2GHZ relatively simply from what I hear.

Yes, the i5 overclocked will more than likely be faster for gaming and benchmarks, but the "neat" factor of the dual Quads kinda makes me want to do it.....

Cost wise, I already have the Tyan board and Xeons....so technically it would be cheaper. That being said I could sell the combo for a pretty decent amount....

I would like to hear your thoughts guys, its been a long time since my last build!! (nearly 4 years!)

+1 on that.
The xeons don't worth the investment, while you will be able to upgrade the 2500k in the future, as 1155 will support the next gen cpus too.

I'd sell as well in your situation. The xeon's are perfectly capable but as suggested they are only going to lose resale value, and quickly from this point on. I'll be parting my old q9550/dfi build as soon as i'm back in Canada in September for the same reason.

Well, I've decided to keep the config, as I got it all together and installed win7 on it successfully. Also I've managed to get together a total of 7GB RAM, filling all 4 Mem channels running 667MHZ. It is actually quite fast!!

Now it comes time to find a 2nd D-Tek Fuzion block and make the transformation into my rig.... should be pretty sweet!
