Future proof build for a friend.

So I have a friend who has a budget of 3000 dollars after taxes and shipping. He is looking for something future proof that could handle anything he throws at it. So this is what I have so far.

So this is what I have put together so far. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I know there must be far better builds out there for less.

Change those Itachi drive if you want to stay away from any issue, and I would also swap that CPU for a I 2600K and OC it to the max. Software like game and such are not taking a big advantage from a lot of core, they prefer less faster core ( multithreaded soft aren't that popular ). It will also make your friend save a lot of money and use it to buy 2 580 instead of a 570. Then you will have a perfect not that expensive futureproof build.

go ssd for os, wd green for storage. 2 tb's wil be fine.

and make it 2 or 4 sticks of ram for dual channel.

I only object for the storage part : maybe a very fast SSD should be employed as boot/system drive. As for the storage maybe take 3 or 4 of those hard drives and build a RAID 5 matrix for storage.

Put what Dan and Martin said together and then make your build with that.

That 980 processor is rediculously overpriced considering it is the locked version, the i7 2600k will give you more performance in gaming and even folding especially if you OC the crap out of it.

To tell you the truth future proofing is kind of hard right now because there is a smaller die size wave of graphics cards coming out this Q4 and they will probably kick ass so games will be able to have higher graphics settings.

Pretty much there is no such things as future proof (well if you want to play at max graphics with high FPS) but we try to give advice that will atlest make it mid-high range for a couple years.

Hey Martin why did you suggest 2 580's when one is nearly the same price as 2 570's?

Because if you save near 500$ on CPU mobo ram and your friend want sli, why not getting the best card? Personally I would buy 1 580 and add a second later IF NEEDED.
I also sugest to use only 1 580 and use the 200$ yous ave from ditching the sli to buy a SSD for OS and important software.

hell the 1kw psu will be overkill still :)
