My System Specs

Default Moving to the Big City...

hey guys,

I just got an IT job in Toronto (I'm a county boy down in the Windsor area), and with the lifestyle change, I cannot have my "command centre" in such small apartment spaces in the GTA.

I have a silverstone mATX case that I won at a LAN party and I'm looking to build a new PC for that case instead of my current HAF 922. Just seeing what you guys recommend for parts. I will mulling over a Sandybridge with an Asus mATX evo 3.0 board (I would of gone sabertooth, but there it won't fit inside my case) I know AMD bulldozer is right around the corner as well as the new intel chipsets, I just wanted your input.

Thanks!

Hey! First of all Congrats! What IT job is it?

Secondly, what will the purpose of your new set up be? You should review this: NOTICE - PC builders, when asking for input on YOUR projects Please Tell .

Thanks wesamess, I have accepted a Jr. Networking Technician Position for a large engineering consultancy firm downtown Toronto.

That being said, I'm trying to consolidate some of my computer hardware surplus and build a smaller PC. I took your advice and read the thread so here goes:

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. Mainly gaming (Black Ops, SC2), I will also use it for the obvious word processing (Office Suite), maybe a little video editing and audio producing (an offboard sound card isn't a must)

2. What YOUR budget is. I'm aiming for 500-600. I have some parts I will be re-using, will mention later.

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from. I've been a loyal customer of NCIX.com for many years and I order nearly all my parts from there.

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture. I'm open for suggestions on this one. My old desktop is a core 2 quad, and I've been looking alot into the Sandybridge chipsets. Any advice on the upcoming chipsets would be appreciated.

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are. With my current desktop, I will probably be re-using my video card (MSI 460 768MB, will upgrade to something higher down the line), as well as the LG DVD lightscribe burner, and NZXT sentry 2 fan controller. As I mentioned before I won a silverstone mini formfactor cube case, and I also have 4GB DD3 PC1600 Gskills ripjaw RAM just sitting around unopened that I may consider using.

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds. Probably keep stock speeds, looking to going into overclocking since thats what the unlocked processors of the Sandybridge chipset are made for.

8. WHEN do you plan to build it? When I sell my Asus laptop, so within the next 1-3 months.

9. What resolution do you use? Currently have 2 24 inch Asus LED panels running at 1920 x 1080. Eyefinity may be in the picture depending on what I build.

Any thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated!
