My System Specs

Default Which GPU?

So, I ended up buying a single MSI GTX 570 OC for $310 after tax and Mail-in-rebate (although, MSI is a bitch with their fine print)... $60 off + $20 MIR from $369.

I was going to get a friend to buy me a 2nd card as it's 1 per person & 1 MIR per household... but they changed the deal to $40 off + $20 NCIX giftcard + $20 MIR and I'm just not feeling the love anymore :P

Anyways, I was just going to go straight to 2x 560s... but now I'm in a confusing state of if I should be economical, go for even more power, or switch to ATI!

I'm looking at:

SLI GTX 560 x2 = Not a huge upgrade, but brings forward a bunch of little benefits.
SLI GTX 570 x2 = It's spending a ridiculous amount of money... but there may be some benefits.
Single GTX 570 = Performance downgrade, but being economical and no troubles of SLI.
CF 6950 1GB x2= Will ATI offer enough benefits or pricing to sway me?

Some things I want to consider:
-Temperature is about a 30% factor. Most worried about the heat dumped into my case by the card(s). Going with cards that have advanced cooling if I don't get the 570(s). I really like the 570/6950 cooling solution for using in SLI/CF mode (doesn't dump it in your case).
-Noise is a 50% factor. Most worried about idle noise, not too worried about at load as long as it's within reason (i.e. not like the 480 at load...)
-Due to F@H and PhysX on nvidia cards, I'd say they get a $10 premium over ATI cards.
-Price/performance is a measly 15% factor.
-And the last small 15% is for everything else (power draw, efficiency, etc).
-I game at 1920x1080 and expect close to max settings on every game without ever feeling lag during intense scenes. (In some games, I see no visual benefit for max settings and turn down a few options, i.e. BF:BC2, SC 2)

If I could get the Gigabyte 560 SOC series, I would hands down SLI those babies! But there is no guarantee they will have any in stock in the next 2 days. All the new sales basically start tomorrow/today, so I'll be buying by Friday.

hd 6950 and 6970 cfx will eat gtx 560 and 570 easily... but it also beats gtx 580 at some games...

so get hd6950 with unlocked shade... and cfx it... but it will be more noise than gtx 560 sli... so watercooling it...

anyhow.. depend on what resolution so you use...

btw dont buy gtx 570 or gtx 580... get gigabyte gtx 560 soc or msi gtx 560...

Here are some of the ones I've looked at so far:

Gigabyte GTX 560 SOC - out of stock
MSI Twin Frzn GTX 560 - looks pretty solid
Gigabyte/MSI/EVGA GTX 570 - stock card with stock everything
ATI ?????

Anyone know of any cards that are 99% sure to NOT have capacitor/coil whine when F@H? My current cards have capacitor whine and it's annoying if I'm using my computer when folding. Supposedly the 560 SOC series fixes this issue... but will they magically be in stock tomorrow or Friday?

I don't buy to unlock or flash to higher versions (i.e. 6950 -> 6970) if that is what you mean. I decided not to buy water-cooling for now, and not sure if I will end up ever going water-cooled or not. Updated post to say 1920x1080 at more or less max settings. As I said, the PhysX and F@H give nVidia a small premium in my books plus a slight biased towards nvidia (now that they have made their lineup very solid).

You have 460's... what can you not run right now that having a new video card will fix?
Seriously.
I understand the upgrade bug, but really now.

From where you sit right now, the only GOOD option is a 580GTX. Period.
Same cost, if not cheaper than some of your SLI options and it will always be upgradeable with another 580 in the future if you need to.

Everything runs maxed on my unit with good cooling and a variable fan profile I never see about 70-75c under load. I idle whisper quiet at 30-35ish.

I had no good reason to upgrade... I know... there are only 4 games I own that can't get 60 fps at max settings consistently. Cost wise, upgrading the to 560 will be a moot reason to upgrade (possibly even the 6950 option), but at the same time, spending to upgrade to 570 SLI seems like I'm wasting money just to justify upgrading.

It's too late... I already sold my cards... secretly I was hoping nobody would buy them so I wouldn't be stuck with upgrading from something that was already providing great performance. I would never buy the GTX 580 unless it saw a $80 price cut. Nothing else to it.

The 6950's actually scale very well

XFX Radeon 6970 and Radeon 6950 Graphics Card Review - CrossFire / Eyefinity vs SLI

That review shows the CF 6950's not beating the SLI gtx 570's... but coming close. On their own get the 570 but on crossfire/sli I'd take the 6950's any day of the week (maybe it's because I'm cheap but they perform very well). Looking at other reviews the 6950 seems to outperform every gtx 570 except in cases with tesselation and even then it only gets beat sometimes.

Since you're a folder, I suggest the GTX 570. However if you didn't sell them yet, stick with your GTX 460 SLI.
