Got my new build to post, what's next?
I finally got all my parts on friday (after a ticket) I have put everything together and turned on the power and my system posted and went into the bios. Now what is the next step? install windows 7 on my SSD?(do I need to update firmware first?) I have both my 60GB SSD and 1TB black pluged into my hotswap bays (800D) but I have read that you should unplug all but one drive before installing windows, is this a good idea? or should I update the bios? The user guide says not to update the bios if the current version is fine.
My motherboard is a ASUS P8P67 Pro (I have another topic with my part list) Anyways I have never build a PC before and I am just happy it posted because a few times I thought I was in over my head.
So if anyone can say what order I should do stuff it would really help me out.
You AHCI in BIOS . this alows Trim to work,
You also want to enable hot swapping in BIOS ( there shuold be High preforance and somthing else) select the other one not High preforance.
set ROM drive as first boot device. hard drive as second and select boot from other device also
Pull the Black 1 TB out. make sure system is off.
let it boot up ( should changet he BIos may reboot on you let it)
Put Windows CD in ROM drive
It should spin and take a ninute or two
should get some seletions chose
shoud boot in and atart laoding winsows to system
Have only one drive of any kind on your system( so no USB sticks or hhd) =just the SSD
Did you format the HDD ??
If not after the Windows install shut down system and install drive.
Go to Search BOX thype in Format drive ( create format drive partions)
set up your drive in ACHI
format the storge drive
sorry long post
Thank you, AHCI was already set but I couldn't find the hotswap option so I just started to install windows 7. Should I update windows before I format the HDD or does it really matter?
Doesnt matter, eathe r way will work
there is small cernel in WIN 7 You just want to make sure its on the disk you want it on.
All the rest of your programs except the one you use all the time should go on the black.
so format the black and start to load it with all the good stuff yuou need
Edit: When you have HDD set up and windows updated. Back up and Image your system onto the HDD.
Only have your SSD connected when you install Windows 7. It puts a small partition on what it thinks is the boot drive. Which might not be the drive you want it on if you have both SSD and HDD connected.
And auto-install your common programs at ninite.com. Saves lots of time.
and if you have hdds full of data, always always disconnect the sata power AND data cable before you
properly test the machine out. gl man
ok once you get everything freshly installed I want you to pull it all apart and send it to me for free :) .
ninite.com is a good way to install everything? I have yet to format my HDD or update windows 7. I watched the all star game and then my brother came over so I never got a chance to get online yet. I installed windows 7 just fine but couldn't update it because I was too far from my router and don't have a wireless card for it yet. After windows finished, I installed my extra fans into the case and tried to get my cables looking better.
Should I install the video card drivers on my SSD or HDD and what about firefox or AVG? I was just going to install windows 7 on my SSD.
Again thank you for everything.
