May I suggest waiting a bit? If your friend is not in a rush, the release of the 6990 or the 1366 Sandy bridge cpus may drop the price of the components you're looking for. BTW, Nice build you got planning there. I heard the i7-2600k beat the 980x in some cpu benchmarks. Looks like the new Gen of processors are really something. I Can't wait for the i7 1366 Sandy Bridge CPUS as well as the 6990 Monster from ATI.

I don't except to much from the 6990, from the price and for the performance.
No sandy on 1366, it's gonna be 2011. The high end platform that gonna cost an arm and a leg.
You can always wait for something better, but sometime you just have to buy.

I think waiting for a couple of days until the GTX 560 is released will find him a better deal on the HD 6950 or might lead him to get the 560, unless the 560's reviews are negative, then the HD 6950's price might actually go up!

Interesting 1 PCI-E slot board from Intel. This could be a good one for your build.
