if you still can swap i7 970 with i7 950(if you bought recently), then you can buy a better GPU like gtx 570, i'm sure you can find one priced $350
the trade that you plan will be worthy only if you are going for eyefinity, otherwise - gtx 570

there must be plenty of cases that have a space for additional fans like Fractal Design Define R3 or you can just replace the Corsair 600t fans(not sure about it)

Unless gaming isn't the main purpose of this machine, it seems a bit silly to be going 970 and then match it with a middle class GPU. That mobo looked like a pretty solid board at a great price (although I ended up going for the higher priced X58A-UD5 at the time). P.S. you shouldn't be paying more than $640 with shipping for a 970 atm. You can still get some 'Christmas promo' ones brand new on ebay for that price.

I'm not saying buy this one, but I'd cut your SSD budget a bit to get a better GPU:
Newegg.ca - OCZ Agility 2 OCZSSD3-2AGT120G 3.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Although the AX series is great for a bit of bragging, it's not worth the price premium for 90% of gamers and over-clockers. You can still find amazing products for a bit less. I do really like the fact that it's 100% modular and they don't have a couple of "always used" cables hardwired into the unit.

I already built this PC actually and spend just under $1600 total (my last calculated estimate was $1533 CAD including tax).

I have the 470 GTX boxed up atm and its posted on craigslist waiting.. For now im using my old XFX 9800 GTX until I decide. Reeeally considering the gtx 570 because of faster clocks, and lower power consumption than even the 470

Yeah, I never bought the 470 or 480 due to thermals and power vs performance. I'd say go for the 570 over the 6950... although going for the 6970 can be slightly beneficial if you play at 2560x1600 and never use more than 2x AA.
