Future multi-GPU compatible? If not get the cheapest board. Monitor/Peripherals?

I would recommend an i5 2500k ($229) on a P67 motherboard to skip the integrated graphics. Best value imo is the MSI P67-GD65 ($202) if you hate overclocking but would like extra performance on the go. Gigabyte P67A-UD4 is good. Asus P8P67 Pro I predict will be as good or better, no reviews yet.

G.Skill Ripjaws F3 2x4GB 1600 9-9-9-24 ($104) installing lower (1333) will affect performance. lower latency and higher bandwidth models won't improve anything.

XFX HD6950 ($330) or for a little bit more HD6850CF

XFX 650W XXX ($60) till the end of this week. 450W is enough for HD6850. Also Seasonic or Corsair TX (AX series if you get 69xx/GTX 570 and want to CF/SLI later, a long lasting item to keep for the next system).

WD Caviar Black 1TB ($99). You only mentioned gaming but if you are using programs, apps and other stuff. You might want to a get an OCZ Vertex 2 60GB SSD ($133) for OS/Apps and WD 1TB ($68) Green for files for a better PC experience. It won't improve gaming.

DVD-D ($28)

any $60~90 case such as Xigmatek, CM690II, Antec300, HAF912, Thermaltake Armor A90/A60. You can get something that will last for other builds ($160~190) such as HAFX, NZXTPhantom, Silverstone RV02B-EW (My fav.)

That's about $1,100

Mouse/Keyboard/ Headset+mic/speakers from Logitech/razer/Steelseries/Corsair/Gigabyte/Thermaltake/MS (Don't go too cheap and read the reviews)

Display: Samsung BX2450 or BX2350 ($230~250)

Sound card

Lots of ways to increase gaming performance, go cheaper. Just let us know if you want to upgrade later.
