Default new PC build advice suggestions please

Hey guys, going to build a high end budget gaming PC ($2900). Buying parts from mwave.com.au, its in Australia so parts are fairly pricey compared to US anyway. might OC, SLI in the future depending on how it goes; playing at 1920x1080. i like nvidia, asus, corsair branding. cheers :)

case:
corsair 600t = $ 230.6 aud

CPU/cooler:
intel i7 950 = $ 329 aud, corsair H70 = $ 159 aud (any suggestions on the cooler are welcome)

HDD:
WD velociraptor 450gb 10k RPM 32mb cache = $ 347.1 aud

monitor:
BenQ V2410 LED 24" monitor, D-Sub, HDMI = $ 222.4 aud

mobo:
Asus Rampage III formula = $ 375.8 aud

PSU:
corsair AX850 850W, ultra-quiet, 80+ gold cert = $ 278.8 aud

memory:
Corsair vengeance 1600mhz ddr3 6gb, tri ch, cl8 = $ 151 aud

GPU:
EVGA gtx 570 1.28gb (normal edition) = $ 451.9 aud

Peripherals:
G19 keyboard = $ 169 aud
G9x mouse = $ 95 aud
Gamecom 367 close-ear headset = $ 39 aud
logitech LS21 2.1 speaker system = $25 aud

Total = $2873 aud

howdy and welcome. take a look at a sandy bridge cpu build, should be in stores in a few days.

not sure how much a v6gt or hr-02 is worth over there

nice case, but you could do well with a 922 as well.

get one 64-128 gig ssd or so and a 2tb for storage

nice psu way overkill even for sli or crossfire 6850's :)

Row a boat to Taiwan and buy your parts for less $$$!

Kidding. Two parts I would change are the HDD and potentially the PSU. Get a SSD to load your OS/Apps on instead of the Velociraptor. A popular one seems to be the OCZ Vertex 2 60/80GB versions, but there's new releases later this year so it may be worthwhile to wait for the next generation. I would get a WD Black or WD Green drive for storing media/game files. The size of the drives is up to you..but judging from your post you could definitely get away with a 320GB or 640 GB version.

Also, unless you're planning on overclocking or purchasing a second GTX 570 down the road for SLI, your 850W PSU is overkill. It's a great brand and product, but you can save some money if you go with the 750W version.

hahaha thanks guys yeah i thought that might have been the case - the PSU and HDD, from what i've read people seem to be following suite with what you have both suggested so ill try that one out. with the case, I just thought the 600t might have been easier to set up seeing as its my first build.. although ill have a gander at the 922 :)

well i plan to OC the CPU about 4ghz max so is the H70 and the 850W PSU needed?, i've taken away all of the peripherals bar the headset (saved me a fair few dollars; ill get them at a later date not top priority). changed to an OCZ vertex 2 120gb which is about 250$, much difference between the black and green drives? thanks in advance

h70 is good, bud id rather go into high end air cooling if you have the cash to spend. with one card youd be fine with a good 500-600 watter. 650 corsair to be on the safe side. but if you think of adding another one and oc'ing the lot? do keep the 850. which is dam expensive btw :p

the green drives are storage drives, blacks blue's are os drives.

im not too tech-savvy with the tempertaure side of the components, so im going to ask you is that cooler good? 61.5c at load OC, and its passive 0dba i like haha.. yeah i think ill keep the 850W just in case ;) and yeah its very quiet and 80% gold according to the specs and a trustworthy brand so im guessing thats why its got that price tag haha.. so get a WD 1TB green cav for storage? and an 80gb SSD for OS?

I'd stay with the AX850 as you said there's a chance for doing SLI down the road and extra headroom will do you well since you've got overclocking in plans too.

The black & green drives are best described like this.. black is for performance and green is for storage. Having said that, I'm the one who would still prefer a black drive as my storage as I'd prefer the performance it gives over the green drives.

I'd also stick with the 600T, its an awesome case over the ugly looking 922, just my opinion though.

Good luck with your build and enjoy the new machine

hahah okie dokie yeah im starting to iron out all the unnecessary components now; yeah ill probably go for the black i mean its only $100 even if the green is half as much which i doubt it is the performance will make up i think, may aswell go the whole 9 yards if im spending this much on a machine. haha yeah i loved the 600t as soon as i set eyes on it, not too keen on a side-window case which most of them are, seeing as i have to sleep in the room the Computers in if it somehow turns itself on; all those LED's will be sure to light the whole street up haha. now its just the cpu cooler... i plan to OC the 950 close enough to 4ghz so i need an apropriate cooler which will be MORE than enough dont mind spending the dosh, i quite liked that HR-02 but will it succeed? im saying this because i have no experience with CPU coolers

passive as in theres absolutely nothing that can go wrong, like a fan dying, water leaking, etc.

2tb green, 1tb to 2tb price diference is negligeable :) and you get one drive, no need to get a second shortly after...? :)
