If you spread that manually, and that's not the result of a contact test, do it again.

Otherwise if you're really REALLY picky, spread the paste on the cooler and CPU with a flat edge, like a razor.

Are you spreading thermal paste on the heatsink or did it look like that when you took it off?

If you just took it off and it looks like that I would say it's good, you can see the copper through the paste so it's not too thick.

Crud, that was manually. I already put the heatsink onto the CPU (but I also added a little bit more thermal paste). I'll turn on the computer and see what the temps are.

If you already made contact with the heatsink, you don't wanna pull it off and put it back on as air pockets will form. Or so I've read. I just let contact pressure spread it.

Lol! Not so much hardcore as I am a complete noob. I'm buying the after-market cooler to help lower the temperatures of the CPU, so that it'll live longer in my inept hands.

Aftermarket coolers are a good idea even if you arn't ocing. Stock fans (only have experience with AMD) are very loud under load.


If you have enough paste, I would clean both the cpu and HS. Reapply, coat a thin layer of paste with a razor over the cpu. Then set the heatsink.
