Default New i7 build. Tryying to order tonight.

Hi Guys,

My friend's box died, so we are in a hurry to order some parts and get it together.

How's this build look. Anything stupid we are overlooking?

He's just "getting into gaming" so I think this car will suffice?

He will be video editing down the road, so we will be adding more drives for that when the time comes.
That is why I am maxing out the RAM now, as I don't like mixing sticks (half now half later)

Thanks, Tomek

For video encoding / entry gaming:
1. 12GB of Ram is huge ......24GB?
2. Great build, but I would consider taking the $$$ saved by going with 12GB RAM and get a better GPU......580 / 570 or wait n see the new ATI Cards
3. Swap out Green WD's for Blacks
4. Consider a "Full Tower"
5. Video Encoing eh......no Blueray Burner (ROM only)..they are on sale for as little $100

Thanks guys! Exactly what I was looking for!

OPSS! Ment to add a burner not ROM! THANKS.
Updated the build w/ a burner.

As for the 2 x 2TB, one will sit in the "cady" via E-SATA hook-up for back up (so no RAID).

Can't go NVIDIA as HDMI bitstreaming PAP does not work. STILL!

His budget was actualy $4K but i conviced him to go w/ a better price : performance build.
So the $200 extra for the RAM is no big deal.

EDIT - don't understad why to go for "blacks" or the "greens" since it's for storage and back-up,
so I do see speed or reliability being an issue.

Do you plan to put the games on the SSD as well? Looking at my 89GB games folder I doubt that will be possible.
If you want to put games on a hard drive I recommend something faster than a WD Caviar Green, or you'll see slow loading times in games. For example I encountered a noticeable difference going from a Seagate 7200.11 to a WD Caviar Black in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat. The WD Caviar Green is even slower than the older Seagate (due to spindle speed) FYI.

The external HDD can definitely be a WD Green though, since that's what those drives are made for.

I will comment that my WD Black (1002FAEX) is audible over my system fans when it's seeking, if a quiet rig matters at all.

Definitely consider a full tower. Lilis are great cases, but one you can look at is the Fractal XL.

Thanks guys, he's into Mid tower.

We plan on getting another SSD if he starts getting cramped down the road.

I was looking at those Fracal cases too. You think it cools as well, and is as quiet as the Lian Li?

Why would you choose one over the other?

Thanks, Tomek

Lili build quality is definitely better than Fractal.
Fractal air cooling and quietness over the Lili you chose.

Hmm... the cooling and noise levels of the fractal case don't fair so well in this review.

I've built 2 rigs using the XL; I speak from experience (using a Lili A70F atm) and I can tell you the XL is superior to the mid-tower case you chose.

You asked for opinions, I gave you mine - I would not slam all those components in a mid-tower, Lili or not. Your call.
