Question New build for my cousin, huge WOW fan.

My cousin wants to build a new PC by December, I built my own a while back, so need a little help with the new tech. He has a keyboard and mouse, needs the computer and a new screen. He is a huge Blizzard fan, so he really just wants to play WOW and Starcraft2 at MAX settings. He is willing to spend $1500 on the computer and the screen.

I was looking at a prebuilt one at Memoryexpress. Velocity V_GT2030A Gaming System at Memory Express Computers

What are your thoughts on this one?Any help would be great, thanks.

Lackluster CPU, good but old GPU, with a questionable PSU. I personally don't like the price.

If you want prebuilt, NCIX has been coming out with a few prebuilt gaming Vesta's. (their brand) Most of them use Seasonic made PSUs and have specs good enough for SC2 and WOW. From what I've seen on Youtube, they do a pretty stellar job in terms of cable management and whatnot. I build my own systems so I can't comment on any experience with them though.

Otherwise, save some cash and build it yourself.

i say build it for him. wow is not very intensive, like metro2033, so a 'lesser' card like a 6850 will do plenty. same with scII.

cpu wise...hmmm....actually you can start with a reasonably priced 24 incher from samy .

PowerColor HD 6850 PCS+ 1 GB Review - Page 21/32 | techPowerUp

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 Review

im thinking go wither dual core i3 or quad core amd. first has hyperthreading and clocks very well, the second has 4 real cores.

whatever you do, get a decent cooler like a 212+ or a v6gt.

mobo for amd, giga 870a. for intel, your choice of h55/p55 from giga,as well.

psu wise, for starters a decent 500 earthwatts or seasonic or corsair will be more than enough

case wise, not sure what he likes. try a ps04b, cm 912,922 in order of pricing

You can build something much better by choosing your parts.

Some things to lean towards:
GTX 460 for your video card. Really good bang for the buck. 6850 is good bang too.
Decent SSD (x25-m 80gb or Sandforce based) + HDD.
80+ gold rating power supplies. Seasonic is very good and very well priced. Assuming you only run 1 460, you don't need more than 500w. 500w would still give you LOTS of headroom.

Most of the time, you want to get the best deal rather than specific parts. So see what specials are going on at your preferred retailer.

Occasionally dell will have their 2209WA ips monitor on sale for about ~$200. Which is the best ips gaming monitor. And you can tweak it to make it even faster than most TNs for gaming :D

NCIX.com - Canada's Premier Computer Store - Great Technology, Service and Selection.

i5 750 + 4gb + Black 640Gb + 6850 + 520W seasonic + Hyper 212+ + Thermaltake V3 case

972$ - and I'm sure you can still knock off a few bucks.

No idea Dan.

OP, just change the tower to something to his taste. And the link shows W7 HP already.

He does not want to order online, his choice I guess. So I think we will only buy parts local. How does this look, what would you change? Thanks, I love this website. Memory Express Computer Products Inc. - Computer Parts & Laptop Computers in Canada

If you're buying local make sure to pricematch, Memory Express does a 5% price beat IIRC. But it has to be a local store. BTW we can't see your cart, it's in your cookies.
