Default Computer upgrade

Hello, I'm looking to upgrade my old E6400/DDR2/P965 combo. I won't change my Radeon HD 5830 at this point. Considering that new chipsets are coming soon (Q1 or Q2 2011), I won't pay the full price for a i7 or i5 processor. I guess I'll stick with the cheapest option : AMD.

So, here are my choices :

CPU : AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ955FBGMBOX

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ965FBGMBOX

+/- 15$ difference before tax / shipping

MOBO : GIGABYTE GA-870A-UD3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

RAM : G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-4GBNQ

I'm using my computer for video games and light Photoshop. A lot of emails, internet browsing of course ..

I currently have a Antec Earthwatts EA650 PSU, will it be enough to power this CPU/MOBO/RAM combo ?

Thank you

What do you guys think of the AMD Phenom II X6 1055T and AMD Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition ?

howdy and welcome.

light photoshop...hmm..your cpu is still ok.

gaming, it depends a couple will actually take advantage of all the cores. now, because of the clock speed difference, the amd will be faster, but dont expect, at least in games, a big difference.

your psu, a seasonic made i believe, is a fine unit. what is the part and ul number on it, just for curiosity sakes? :)

the other cpus, well the hexa core wont benefit you much, and the other quad is a bit faster. if you overclock, and you should since the 870a is a monster in its price range and above, you'll get there and past clock speedwise.

get a good cooler, like cm 212+

My System Specs

I'd recommend going with the 955. The 200MHz deficit between it and the 965 can be 'fixed' with a relatively effortless overclock just by ticking the multiplier up in the BIOS, likely without even touching the voltage.
