Default PSU question

Hi there,
I've only recently joined this forum and I am looking for opinion as to whether I need a new PSU or not.

Currently, I have Corsair HX1000 powering the following setup:

i7 980X running at 4.2GHz
Corsair H70
Asus Rampage III extreme
12GB (2GB*6) Mushkin DDR3 running at 1866MHz 6-9-6-24
Two Asus Matrix 5870 ROG 2GB in crossfire
One WD VelociRaptor 300GB
One 140mm fan
Three 120mm fans
Two 60mm fans

My question is, I just ordered the third Asus Matrix 5870 ROG yesterday. I am wondering if 1000watts is enough since I will be adding two SSDs to play raid and probably three more harddrives as storage?

My friend's opinion is that I should change to 1200watts or more, but I've heard triple crossfire draws about 641watts so I think there is room to spare.

What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance!

Oh ya you'll be fine with what you have, you'll rarely ever have your whole system under full load and even if you did you'd still be fine. What, may I ask, requires three 5870 2GB? You got 6 screen eyefinity goin on there?

Smile New Builds

At one point I had 2 5970s in xfire with 3 Raptor drives and others totaling 7 with 12gb ram, a 980x, and multiple fans without any issues using the HX 1000. You should be just fine.

You definitely do not need another PSU. The HX1000 is plenty for your needs.
