My System Specs

Default i3 530 build for a friend

My friend currently doesn't have a computer but would like me to build him one.
He plays video games on a console so thats not really an issue.

He'll be using the computer for internet browsing, streaming video, media storage.
Main monitor will be his 1080p Samsung lcd tv.
$600 is the budget.
I'll overclock the cpu as high as I can for a good 24/7 oc.

Ordering next week from bestdirect.ca or directcanada.com.

The parts I've been looking at
Intel Core i3 530 - $113.79
Coolermaster Hyper 212+ - $24.12
GIGABYTE GA-H57M-USB3 - $122.22
G.SKILL Ripjaws 2X2GB DDR3-1600 - $88.86
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB SATA2 - $62.49
Liteon IHAS124 24X DVD Writer - $28.49
= $429.97

PSU - this I'm not sure about I know this system doesn't require much power but I was thinking down the road I could see this rig getting a dedicated video card and more HDDs. So should I go with a 450watt or what?
Any recommendations for the PSU would be great!

Computer Case - will prob end up being Antec 300 but really just a CHEAP decently made case is whats needed.
Any recommendations on the case would be great!
As for the other components, kinda set on the CPU/MOBO since it'll be using onboard graphics and audio.
Other than that I'm open to suggestions.

Help is greatly appreciated!

hmmmm.....

thats quite a bit of juice for the use it will get. you know you can get a low end celly or athlon do it it as well? :) itll save quite a bit

case wise, ps04b. or maybe try the new cm, 912?

power supply, antec earthwatts 380 will be plenty, if no big videocard sees the system. so maybe go with a gt240? or used 8800gt. a bit stronger.

Cases: Cooler Master HAF 912 or 690II Basic/Advanced.

PSU: Corsair VX450/550 or even the TX650 if on special close to the 550's price as it will allow your mate to get a beefy gpu later on if needed.

Good luck with the build

The Silverstone Precision PS04B will work great. Also its $22 cheaper than the HAF 912. Thanks for the tip!

Also what do you think about these two power supplies? Keeping in mind that in a year it will probably get a video card put in it.

Antec Earthwatts 500W Power Supply ATX12V V2.2 Active PFC 80-PLUS 80MM Fan - DirectCanada

One other question. I've ordered from both these places before and it was always nice not payin the PST or whichever one it was. Now that there's HST that gonna be the case is it?

cool. love that case.

hmmmm.....one is older, but as zorro pointed out before(and i forgot which one) one is made by delta the other seasonic(?) either or will be fine.

Antec Earthwatts EA500 500W = Seasonic, but what model??? - alt.comp.hardware.pc-homebuilt | Google Groups

th ea500 is seasonic made, the d is delta(thus the d i guess)

go with the cheaper(and better built)

alright awesome, gonna go with the Antec Earthwatts Green 500W. Be good so when the time comes he can just slap a video card in there and not have to worry about anything.

I guess I should have mentioned earlier that the $600 budget was to include tax/shipping which is why I was pretty much set on the CPU/MOBO.

Can't wait to overclock the i3 530. I have seen some pretty good clocks with low voltages/heat.

I will throw up a couple screens if I remember. Will be ordering within the next week.

Everyone has excellent suggestions for a nice build, but considering its uses I would go with dangtx suggestions. Athlon II x2 or x3, 880g MOB (use onboard graphics), earthwatts 380 or corsair 400cx, ps04b or coolermaster elite case, and stock cooler. A huge oc is not really going to do anything on an internet machine. You could up the PSU to a 500-550w if you want to add a decent video card down the road.
