yeah... i am planning to build next gen computer...

i built my gen 2 computer at sept 2009 and its specification is;

cm 690, hx620, intel q9450, True Black, ga-ep45-ud3p, 2gbx2 ram of mushkin xp2 8500, xfx 285. wd caviar se16 640gb, 4x zm-f3 fans.

now its filled with dust and i am going to give this build to my elder brother... including brightnessss dell 2209wa... >_>;

at home, i have some parts such as hx1000, asus p5q (yucky), asus striker II, and some water cooling parts (and two water cooling blocks for gtx 260 too)... well i was planning to build watercooling but i still dont remember why the project was dropped... o_O?

oh well... i am looking forward to build a new one... but i am too lazy and know that everyone is very knowledge and have many good recommendations...


so next build... should i build aircooling or watercooling? about budget... i think it would be 1500 or so without monitor/keyboard/mouse...

of course... it would be using for movie, game, surf, photoshop, and web design (if i have time)... i just like high quality/ high performance/ overkill... ;p

intel i7
gigabyte like x58a-ud5? (i really hate asus software)
cosair power supply (use hx1000?)
muskhin, g.skill or cosair ram?
80~120gb ssd hard drive for os... maybe?
1tib wd for storage...
nvidia or ati... depends... but i prefer nvidia driver...
aluminum case such as lian...

aircooling or watercooling is still undecided... do you think n00b like me.. i am able to build watercooling? is it really reliability for one year?

when you are recommending sometime then i am going to research why you recommend... ;p

resolution... eh? i dunno... i must use lcd monitor right now... ;[ because i really like to use crt monitor (now its about to dead)... i guess 1600x1200ish or more...

Air or water is up to you but consider the fact that a good air cooler is about as good as water. Again it depends on Oclocking imho.

The core i7 950 has come down to close enough in price to consider it over the 930. The 930 has been great for ocing, so your call.

I prefer Mushkin, but any of the lifetime warranty ram is good. 1600 is the norm but socket 1366 seems to like 1866 the best according to a couple manufacturer's comments.

I had both the 5970 and the 480. My preference has been the 480. If that seems a bit high in price consider the 460. You can add another to get better performance in sli than one 480 eventually.

The OCZ Vertex II 120gb is what I would get for my OS. It leaves plenty of free space to reduce cell degradation. I've had the Agility and Kingston V+ for OS and the Vertex wins hands down.

The CM Cosmos S 1000 is a solid case and is aluminum. This is subjective, as you must like the look, or at least be able to look at it, hehe.

The HX1000 is a great psu. Like you said, overkill, but it allows for future upgrade.

As for storage, the WD Black is a good hdd and the Samsung F3 is a bit faster, either one is a good choice.

1500$ budget PC should play anything on ultra settings if your resolution is 1920x 1080. New displays higher than that are few and expensive. If you haven't decided on one I would recommend the Samsung BX 2450 for 400$.

Since you specified your motherboard and case of choice, I will just add my own preferences in that area, but do consider since my choices were made on a pure gaming/overclocking stability perspective

To answer your cooling question, I prefer easy and simple air cooling, but this case/cooler combo should perform well enough to make you forget about watercooling.

This gives you almost everything on your wishlist, covering the 3 big wishes of Lian Li, Gigabyte & nVidia

anyway... i was just starting with motherboard since i understood about i5 vs i7... i take quick look at those motherboard...

i think ud3r and sabretooth(i dont like that color tho) are almost same class... but i cant compare them :?

i found Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R w/ TripleDDR3 2200, 7.1 Audio, Gigabit Lan, USB3.0, 1394, PCI-E 2.0, CrossFireX / SLI at Memory Express Computers for 240cdn so its pretty close to ud3r's 215cdn... ud7 has a few feature more than ud3r... i would like to have 2 gigabit lan tho...

how is reliability samsung f3 really?

no way, i will buy cd/dvd/bluray/etc burner.... >_>;

I didn't mention the mobo because I would've recommended the Asus P6X58D-E. Since you don't care for Asus boards, and I have not owned Gigabyte, it wouldn't be prudent to recommend something I'm not familiar with. I have owned XFX boards, yuck, DFI boards, ok, and AMD boards, meh. I also owned an EVGA board and had nothing but problems with it. I bought a mobo for a friend a while back that was a cheap Gigabyte and he had to RMA it after 2 weeks.

My Asus P6X58D-E is a great board and quite popular. It's reasonably priced with usb3 and sata 6gb/sec.It has a better gaming chipset than its big brother the premium. If I remember correctly, the 1st 2 pci-e slots are x16 for sli or xfire. Easy to oc and no issues whatsoever.

Good luck with your selection as it seems you've made some pretty good hardware choices already.

You said in your first post that you wanted an aluminium case and the one you linked is steel. Its made by lian li but under the name lancool which tells you it comes from their steel budjet line
